Best birthday gift

Well i was just wondering what everyones "best" birthday gift was. Was it a thoughtful gift. Some expensive and useful gadget? A self made sentimental gift?

Personally i have had some good gifts, but my best was a laptop. although i dont have a wealth of sentimental gifts, which i guess would mean more to me, if i had them. even if they were less useful per se.

And to me, to me it's gotta be the picture the girl I have a crush on made for me last year. Seeing how I.. eh, 'only' know her over the internet, it meant a tremendous lot for me. Then she mailed me the original piece, complete with a frame, which I've got standing on my desk about two feet from me right now.
I'm happy and love her for it. x3

Birthday gifts for me are definitely not about how much money, its little things that take a lot of thought or have meaning. Like one time an ex gf made me a book with drawings and a story all about me .

and thats the kind of gift i want. obviously not from my parents, ill sap their wealth, but from friends or girlfriends, sentimentality is the way forward.

Going out to my favorite Italian restaurant (just to give you and idea, desserts cost $50) with my boyfriend, ordering my favorite meal, and being taken home to eat a cake made by him.

I don't recall ever getting a truly good birthday gift. I'm hard to shop for though since I don't want much and what I do want, I buy myself. Usualy I'll just get something like a giftcard or clothing since that's what I usualy ask for (since I hate clothes shopping!)

I once bought a friend a box of Honey Nut Cornflakes, cos' I was on the way to his hous when I remembered that it was his birthday and I hadnt got him anything... this problem was remedied by a local shop and its breakfast section.

The best birthday gift i ever recieved was a 1987 Japanese Fender Stratocaster. The story goes like this:
My dad lent a family friend of ours a lot of money when his account was frozen while he was in Japan. When he repaid the money, he gave my Dad this gorgeous sunburst 57 reissue guitar, complete with tweed hardcase and optional extras. My father didn't play, and at this point neither did anyone in the family, so he gave the guitar to ANOTHER family friend who was making a living playing pubgigs.
fast forward a few years and I become interested in playing. on my 18th Birthday, my family freind comes to my birthday party and presents me with this story, and the Guitar. The plan was to hang on to the guitar and give it to his children in a few years, kind of a "keep it in the families" type thing, But unfortunately the guitar was stolen. Still stands as the best Birthday Present ever
