Inspired by No Right Answer?s omnibus question: Lonely Island vs. Tenacious D, I was wondering who is the best comedy/parody band (or singer) ever? I?ve always thought that it?s a type of comedy which, when done well, is absolute gold (see: Flight of the Conchords, Bill Bailey, Axis of Awesome, Tim Minchin, even Monty Python) but when done badly is cringe-inducing torture for the earlobes. I?m a Brit, so I?ve mostly been exposed to British (and by the looks of the above list, Antipodean) comedy, so I would love to hear about any American/mainland European acts I should check out. Suggestions please!

In before: Weird Al.

But, there is another one that I would like to point out that not a lot of you might think of. The Aquabats!

I'm not an expert in this type of music, so, I don't know about a whole lot of 'em. What do the rest of you know?

Tied between Weird Al and whoever wrote the duck song.
Dammit it's stuck in my head now. Stupid duck asking for grapes.

I used to be a big fan of Weird Al and tripod back in the day, though not so much now. Jonathan Coulton has quite a few good ones though.

Tom Lehrer, really kicking it old school.

Whether it's a parody song to learn the periodic table, re-telling the story of Oedipus Rex, All the magicaly things we can do with a Silent E, a tango about the wonders of rough kinky sex or a jaunty tune about poisoning pigeons in the park, you can't go wrong with Tom Lehrer.

Anyone who isn't familiar with the wonders of Tom Lehrer. GET FAMILIAR WITH IT! Trust me, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

How has nobody mentioned Flight of the Concords yet? They are an absolutely incredibly funny duo, and they even have their own show!
Edit: never mind, the OP mentioned it. They're still my favorite parody band though!

I have to agree here, the man is absolutely fantastic, i mean he is hilarious, dark (very dark for his time) and can teach you to name most if not all of the periodic table

thelonelyisland and Weird Al tie for me. Both have an equal amount of hilarity but if it was for parody, thelonelyisland gets it definitely for 'I just had sex.'

Ookla the Mok.

If you understand music theory, there is always PDQ Bach.

Like political humor, try The Capital Steps.

Henry Phillips is also good.

The arrogant Worms.

The Great Luke Ski.
