So many great artists have already been named. I'll just throw in Mike Mignola (Hellboy, B.P.R.D). Just always appreciated his art different art style.
I would content Inoue Takehiko's work is better on Slam Dunk, the drawing is more vibrant and the use of the page better in general (tough there are a few times Vagabond is just superior in drawing).bartholen said:Holy balls man! Thank you so much for making me find Vagabond. I've read the book a zillion times and it's one of my favorite books ever. I had no idea it had been adapted into a manga. I knew something was up when I recognized the name Tsujikaze Temma. Thanks dude!

Stolen my first pick...bartholen said:What are in your opinion the best manga or comic artists who make the best looking art?
My pick would go to Kentaro Miura for Berserk. I haven't seen such excessive, almost orgiastic detail in any comics I've ever read. Not only that, but the anatomy and naturality of the characters, the lighting and the wildly imaginative designs displayed in the series never cease to impress. And it seems it just keeps getting more and more intricate. Simply everything in the series looks incredible, and since it keeps the manga tropes fairly in check, it's IMO closer to more realistic western art than typical manga. Just look at this

That alone could serve as a painting, but it's just one splash page in a series that has gone on for more than two decades. The guy's an obsessive-compulsive for sure.
So what are your picks? Provide images if you please, since it's always nicer to look at evidence straight away.
Stolen my second pick...K84 said:Tsutomu Nihei, i loved BLAME! to death, such gorgeous (cyberpunk) visuals in that manga.

HOLY CRAP. That anatomy... What series is the guy from? I wanna read it now.Bocaj2000 said:Pro tip. ANY SEINEN MANGA HAS GREAT ART.
However, my favorite is probably Takehiko Inoue

Takehiko Inoue is probably the best manga artist out there.
I've read more manga than the vast majority of manga fans,[/bragging] and this is actually way better than 97% of them.kebab4you said:Only going by art?

Then again, I don't read that much manga so probably a lot better artists out there.
Grattis, kompis: You're the first person in at least ten years to read the book and only then find out about, and read, the manga. I've read the book too, but only after giving the manga a try and not liking it very much. (Don't worry, people, I dug it the second time around.)bartholen said:Holy balls man! The first two are from "Vagabond", a biography of Miyamoto Musashi.thesilentman said:HOLY CRAP. That anatomy... What series is the guy from? I wanna read it now.Bocaj2000 said:Pro tip. ANY SEINEN MANGA HAS GREAT ART.

OT- Call me crazy, but I like Tite Kubo's character models. What? It's true. He's actually the artist that motivated me to start drawing and hopefully get better than I am now.
CaptainMarvelous said:Steel Ball Run, that was the jump to Seinen. You're right, there was a noticable jump in art for the backgrounds but also for the characters and general chapter length. Part 5 and 6 were both better artwise than 4 though pretty much everyone has four for their favourite.Hectix777 said:Well that was because Araki got JJBA from a shonen to a seinen. When he was with shonen he was on a tight deadline but once he hit seinen his art just exploded. Part V was when JJBA became seinen, right? That's my theory.CaptainMarvelous said:While JJBA is probably my favourite manga of all time, the art tends to fluctuate a little bit. Story quality and such is nearly always freaking awesome but the art for Part 1 and 4 could use some work.
OT: Oh! Great for Manga (because despite the fact he's a giant perv that guy can DRAW) and... I kinda feel Jack Kirby but for modern ones, Tony S Daniel did my favourite art for Superman ever in Action Comics 18 so guess he's getting it (even if he can't write for s***)
OT: Also contributing Ivan Reis and Jim Lee here, even if Jim Lee takes forever to draw his stuff it always comes out good (provided he's got something to work with, no-one could make Liefeld's stuff good..)
