Most Fallout 3 people are saying Fawkes, or Charon, or even that damn Dogmeat. They're all good.

Fawkes can turn things into a fine pink mist with his Gatlin, Charon is the only companion I know who could snipe with a shotgun, and Dogmeat, well, he is cute and finds things.

But what about Star Paladin Cross? Put A3-21's Plasma Rifle in her hands, and she will fuck things up.

Seriously though, I'd say the Medic in TF2. OK, it's not really a companion character in the same sense that someone like Alyx Vance is, but if you have a decent medic with you in TF2 you can annihilate a badly organised team, and seriously dent a good one.

Well, let's see. I tow the Persona/SMT line alot, but a game where you can have direct control over your companion doesn't really count, I think. So, let's hit an RPG where you don't. For this experiment, I choose the original .hack series, because even though you give them commands, your party still has its own idea on how to do things. From that, I pick Elk and Mia. Why them? Think about it. They're a perfect pair to work with. One the one side, you have dynamic exploding spells and on the other you have a seasoned warrior. Their personalities aren't bad either, considering that neither of them is trying to be a hero or something. (In fact, Mia's technically a villain, so...)
