I tried this and the tutorial sucks and its amazingly slow paced with a difficulty curve that is stupidly steep.

As far as freeware, non-flash games, Armagetron is great. The car sections from Tron turned into a great game.

I love those games. So awesome.
I do enjoy Cave Story as far as freeware goes.
Zombie Master counts as freeware, I think, although it is a Source mod and HL2 is required.
