I thought everyone like Pong, didn't everyone wile away hours on the school computers playing pong type flash games when they were supposed to be working?

Your lack of faith in Pong is disturbing.
The only time I've ever give pong is 2 minutes.

Tetris? I'll never understand Chemistry because of Tetris on my TI-83.

The TI-83 is one of the best gifts I've ever received (an eighth grade graduation present from my parents - how geeky is that?) I've spent hours in class playing games, as well as writing games. I've programmed Pong, Snake and Minesweeper during class.

In my opinion, the best game ever is Braid. I'm a little wary of saying that since it's so new and still fresh in my mind, but I think I can justify it. It has some great mind bending puzzles, beautiful artwork and style and a really nice soundtrack that gets even better when you manipulate time (the only bad thing is that it is slightly repetitive) But what really stand out is the story. I know it's told in text and not really connected to the gameplay most of the time, but the final level simply blew my mind.

I can't find an emulation of it anywhere, it's realy annoying. I always hear how good this game is and I'll never find out. ='(
They're remaking that game for the DS.
Happy happy joy joy!!!!

Ooo almost forgot. Best game(s) eva to me would be the Turok series for the N64.

EDIT: This is of course if 'best' is what we grew up on and still play, because that's what I got from this thread.

That makes perfect sense if 'good' and 'fun' were based on checklists.

Given that they aren't, this is simply a rather cheeky attempt to twist the system.

One that, unfortunately, fails flat in about half a second.

I don't belevie in a "best game ever". In order for a game to be the best game ever, every gamer in the world would have to enjoy it. And because of the big diferences between platform gamers and PC gamers, finding the "best game ever" is impossible. In theory atleast.

Micro Machines - Once you have 4 - 5 players going at the same time, you can keep going with the same few tracks for hours. Easy to play, basic grapics, characters with no plot or story line, no fan boys and every one has heard of it.

Anyone remember Star Raiders?

Play that these days, and it's still awesomely complex.

Someone is finally speaking sense.

Why isn't it fun? you've got so many different variations and themes you could add to Pong and with two people it's the same as table hockey really, a fun pastime.

Your original statement had a list of things that Pong had and that you thought made a game fun which was followed by a conclusion that Pong was the best game ever because that meet the requirements from the list.

I'd vote for Tetris because it is:
1. the most copied and re-issued game ever. There isn't a system out there you can't get Tetris for in one way or shape, obviously beating out everything else in popularity.

2. Tetris is a 'pure' video game in that it doesn't emulate another game, it is a game made and designed from the ground up as a video game, it can not work in a physical form in any way or shape. Tetris is Tetris. Pong is uber-simplified tennis.

3. It meets all the criteria of the OP (Someone said it doesn't, uhm, yes it does).

Every game has fanboys. They're just not of the 12 yr old shout in your ear type.

Another contender is Snake btw.

Aside:
I don't much like grapes and love wine.

Also:
Keen 4 wooo!
