Side features have become more of a killer app than the game itself. From Halo 3's Theater mode too Gear's Hoard, which has seen other games using it in there games. Mine would have to be Halo 3''s Theater mode that would take best feature. To make something that good and complex is just beyond my mind.

What is yours?

Probably Killzone 2's skirmish mode, it's nice to not have to deal with the online community occasionally.

Would side quests count?

If so then GTA side quests always seem to add some fun. If not then, mehhh.

EDIT:

Ahhhh, I totally forgot about Farcry 2's map editor! Hours and hours spent on that! Not to upload and play on, but I've made b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l landscapes on there.... also, you can put whatever items you like on there. It's like a giant sandbox!

Pokemon Platnium's Pokewatch apps.

No, i'm just kidding.

In all honesty, I really liked the Custom unit construction feature out of Warzone 2100. It seems dated now, but back in 1999, it was pretty fun to be able to have your own units built, rather rely on what the developers want to make for you.

I'd have to say map editors, even if they are simple like Halo's Forge having map editor will almost always double or triple a games lifespan. It's why people still play a lot of old games like WC3 today.

I would love so see more map editors in console games today. Hopefully with the success of Forge and games like Littlebigplanet map editors will start becoming standard in console games of the future.

Edit: I'm also gonna throw in user made content. Take GH's create a song feature (sorry don't remember the proper name). While obviously not am ap editor it does the same thing, adds playtime to the games lifespan.

Same, I would love some ability to rewind Campaign clips though. Surely they can go to the last checkpoint or something.

EDIT: And map editors too. Can I pick two?

the world ends with you had this cool system where you could not only change the difficulty during the game but also your level. for example:

you are at level 23. the enemies you face are piss-easy, but you want loot and exp. you can now lower your level which generally leads to more items and raise the difficulty which gives you better items. also good for bosses as they carry different stuff on different difficulties. and thats not even all but i´m too lazy right now.

i love this game, btw.

Yeah, I was in two minds about Theater and Farcry's Map editor.

I lost 4 straight days to that game, its all abit of a blur. I remember it being awesome though.

For me its the card game (Tetra Master) from Final Fantasy IX. Best side game ever, Blitzball was such a let down.

I expected this to be the first post: Nazi Zombies. That's the only reason I EVER put in CoD5 anymore.

Firefight in Halo:ODST will probably be played a lot.

Neverwinter Nights comes with a toolset to create your own adventures and stuff. I use it to make unbelievably overpowered weapons for my level 1 characters to use.

Enchanted Longsword of Smiting +100 For the Win!!!!!!!!

BLitzball was truly a game in a game. WIth the whole world playing as your draft. Makes me want to dust off my PS2 and copy of FF10 now....

Im not sure what the game is but I get your idea. Dose GTA Vice city and San anders let you use your MP3s for a in car radio station. And didn't wipe out for some platform use your on-board music to change the colours and beat?

Alchemy in Oblivion.

Hours and hours wonderfully wasted wondering around the countryside collecting ingredients and experimenting with them...

Then you hit level 100 and can make potions with only one ingredient... super sweet.
