I have to say Mass Effect 2 opening really impressed me. Not mentioning it just because it is the most recent one in memory.

When the game first gave me control of Shepard i was like "Wtf, why is he moving so sluggishly?" and than i realized, Jesus, the ship is ripped open! It got my brain working because i sort of expected everything to be fine, you know how in such movie scenes ships get shot, but everything totally ends up ok. Not with ME2.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis comes to mind. It's satisfying to see the outbreak actually take place after having played Resident Evil 2 where it just kind of happened.

I'm gonna say Dead Space, yeah not the most original opening ever and all the chit chat got annoying at times, but it sets a very dark and silent mood when you see the Ishamura for the first time.

I've got a choice of 2 really, The first one being Soul Edge on the PSone, just for graphics that looked amazing at the time specifically the Mitsurugi (sp?) fight. Bad music though.

The second one is bar far my fave and it's the opening to Soul Reaver, this one I can watch over and over and I love the attention to detail, especially in the face of Raziel when Kain touches his wings.

No question, this is by far the best opening sequence on any game, ever.

Haven't been a Sonic fan in over a decade, but I really loved Sonic Arcade's "They Call Me Sonic." Possibly my first techno song ever.

& then there's this one that uses jazz:

I agree with those who have said Final Fantasy X. And, though it might make people wanna punch me in the face, I actually think the Final Fantasy X-2 setting was fantastic as well.

The first Red Alert, it has Einstein going back in time and eliminating Hitler followed by awesome music and displays of cool military hardware.
I had a few thoughts floating around my head for this thread, but this post made them all scatter as far as they could in strong remembrance of that vid. I <3 it to this day.

Brutal legend, hands down.

you've just arrived in 'ha ha, you're so gonna get fucked...by metal' land and you're going "oh fuck me, whatdoido?" as you're running away from cloaked skeleton demons who want to stab you until the sequel comes out, you're running through the temple of ormagoden, and the temple looks REALLLLLY COOL. while this is happening, you hear the opening of 'Children of the Grave' by Black Sabbath, which adds to epic build up soon to cometh.

then you ponder a strategy that would surely save your life and vanquish those do you harm 'til death; "holy shit, that axe looks awesome, i should totally pick it up" and then as you pick it up, lightning comes down from the sky and the kickass part of the song starts up. you then turn to your foes with axe in hand and with a violent cry, you shout "FUCK YOU" and rain down upon the demons with force of 50 grown men.

you see your guitar is in danger. as you rescue it from the hands of demons blood, you discover it can blow shit up with fucking LIGHTNING and FIRE. you equip yourself with pick in hand, play a quick lick only satan himself could play, and your demonic foes are then electrocuted through the power of HEAVY METAL!!!!

later you build the titans greatest invention, not a beast nor monster, a machine fueled by heavy metal, a druid plow....the duece...summoned before you through means of awesome guitar solos. as you start the hell beast knowing the opposition lay before you is far too many, the music ques with 'back at the funny farm' by motorhead and times perfectly with rest of the game ahead. you hit the nitro as first rythm guitar riff is belted out and you storm straight through your foes, no matter their strength, numbers, or size, they are defeated before you as the druid plow earns it's name. not only that, if you read the lyrics to the song, it makes sense with eddie's current situation; he has know idea where he is in such a strange and unusual land, but it's fast and loud and that's all he needs to make sense of.

that entire first level in brutal legend fucking blew my mind the first time i played it. completely blew my mind, melted my face, and raised all kinds of hell!!!!
