Fallout 3. Nothing like starting a game with 45 minutes of stale gameplay. -.-"

Luckily it got better.

Onimusha 3 was pretty good. And if you can tolerate horrible one liners, Devil May Cry 3 was pretty good

Bioshock, without question. Sets the tone of the things to come perfectly.
This.

And This:

No opening has ever hooked me on a game faster than Kingdom Hearts.

The first l4d. I used to watch through it every time i started it up. My mates waiting for me to join them in game used to get a bit pissed off about the wait though.

Kingdom Hearts 2, I love that intro, mainly because of Utada Hikaru.
Seriously? The six-hour tutorial comprised of boring, annoying, menial chores? The intro that acclimates the player to a group of characters that we will neither see nor hear from again over the next 30 hours of the game and who will have absolutely no impact on the game's events whatsoever? The one that takes the most hyped character in the series and writes him out as quickly as humanly possible? That intro?

Sorry, going to have to disagree.

My votes are for:

Resident Evil 4 ("Where's everybody going? ... Bingo?")
Half-Life 2 ("Rise and shine, missster Freeman... rise and... shine...")
Kingdom Hearts 1 (Too many good things to say)

I CANNOT BELIEVE ONLY ONE PERSON SAID KILLZONE.

It's Killzone, Bioshock was cute, but Killzone's intro video was good enough to be a damn movie. It was better than the game, for Christ's sake! If you haven't seen the Killzone intro, you should. This is what exoplanetary colonization will really look like

The beginning of Mass Effect 2 during the cutscene made me literally go "Holy S%^t!"

Mass Effect 2.

Joker's god damned stubborn-ness got rid of two of years Shepard's life, though.
I'm in agreement here.
Side topic: we need a Robot Chicken Mass Effect episode. Seth Green as himself being Joker. Meta

I'll have to go with that perennial favorite: Final Fantasy VII. It starts with a far away view of a techno city, and then the camera zooms and swoops in to the very first mission and you start. And all this without dialogue, without a loading screen. It was just awesome the first time I saw it and I think it stands up well even today. Very clean, very simple, very cinematic, simply beautiful.

That said:
I'm gonna say Dead Space, yeah not the most original opening ever and all the chit chat got annoying at times, but it sets a very dark and silent mood when you see the Ishamura for the first time.

[PROTOTYPE], inFAMOUS, and Bioshock. Oh, and Assassin's Creed II as well. Starting seconds after the first game ended was gold.

Red Alert 2, I' e always wondered what it would be like coming home from work, and seeing it rain conscripts in the skies

Bioshock, Half Life 2, and Mass Effect 2. Watching my sister scream at the beginning of Mass Effect 2 was priceless (you know why...).

The MGS2 Intro (not the gameplay intro, the music thing). I love that song, brings back memories.

I have to mention ME2 as well, of course.
