I was playing New Vegas earlier today, when I got to a computer that needed to be hacked and I noticed something: the hacking mini-game has gotten a lot harder. So I was forced to disifer the password using some graph paper and a pencil, because guessing and rebooting the terminal was getting me no where. That was when I fully apreicated that mini-game; its still a pain to do, but I get it. Kind of sounds stupid but there some stragety to it, when you're not just guessing

That prompted me to start a thread about in-game mini-games. The good ones. Also I said "in-game", because I want the ones in a game, not the ones from a game made up entirely of mini-games

The hacking in New Vegas is clever but I hate the way it slows the game down. Still, it's satisfying to solve them.

Mine would have to be BethOut (New Vegas, and 3) era hacking. Not sure how it worked in the old fallouts, but 10 to 1 odds it was just a skillcheck.
Also, if it counts the space mission in Reach.

Hacking in 3 and NV is about on the same level. I found neither to be more difficult than the other. (and of course with 100 Science skill it's a simplistic affair...just get rid of at least one dud and the minigame cannot be failed.) And maybe it's just me but I very rarely had to close and restart the minigame more than once.

As for my all-time favorite minigame? I really liked the way Oblivion did lockpicking. Really required a steady hand, especially at low levels of Security skill.
