I've just seen Aguirre (which is where my avatar is from) and thought about the influences different countries have on film making. List your top movies from different countries! GO!

France: Delicatessen
Germany: Aguirre
USA: 2001
England: Lawrence of Arabia
Japan: The Seven Samurai
China: Internal Affairs
Italy: 1900
Canada: Sodomy in Newfoundland (oh snap!)

So, because a movie is in english it makes it not international?
Nearly every movie we've watched is international because, get this: it was shown in more then one country!
Didn't get a word of what you just said.

Then read it again slower.
If you didn't understand however, I'll ask you this:
What do you think an International movie is?
I think he meant: a movie that is not from one's country, or not American.

The reason why I added international to the title was because I wanted to discuss movies from different nations, but I guess it was a rather poor choice of words because 'international' would imply a sort of intercultural production (like 1900).

Okay this makes it easier = Movies from directors of different nationalities. Contribute now?

I'd have to say Downfall (Der Untertang) would be up there.
I agree. I really loved that film.

Also Brothers Bloom (sure it had Hollywood Actors...but the rest was Eastern European (dunno specifically though) was a great film for me. Had action, was funny and had a great twist.

Needs to be said: Pan's Labyrinth... just brilliant. Made me cry (one of the few films that has).

Germany: Run Lola Run, Wings Of Desire.
Awesome, what's the second one about?
Sweden: Let the right one in.
When I think about Sweden the first thing that pops in my head is that little wierd boy. Yes, it's not hot chicks. His acting is that good.
Japan: Battle Royale, Ran, Akira
Yes, don't know, hell yea!
Hong Kong: Hard Boiled, Enter The Dragon, Accident
I used to have the comic Hard Boiled.
Italy: Gomorrah.
Totally awesome, I agree. 1900 still tops it.
Russia: 9th Company.
Totally forgot about Russia (and the Russians make some damn fine art). I'd say Ivan the Terrible altough there's this one movie that tops it but I can't remember the name.
Spain: Un Chien Andalou (I count it as Spanish)
Sounds french.
There's plenty more, but I can't think of them at short notice.
Nice list, that's what I was going after. The other I don't know.

King of Hearts is a hilarious old anti-war movie from France which I would highly recommend, and Sukiyaki Western Django is phenomenal (even if it takes a while to get used to the accents.)

Edit (previous post made no sense):

These:

Untergang - Germany
Amelie - France
Is Der Untergang the movie that has the parodied Hitler speech in it? Have never seen it altough I've heard only good.

Loved Amelie, it's very well...whimsical?

Whenever I think of french cinema I think of Audrey Hepburn and her skinny ass that turned women around the globe into bulimics. She's not French, I know, but she's so desperately trying.
