God of War 3 had a badass opening. The final boss was completely disappointing though. Everything was so fucking epic and had you going, "damn, how can they top this in the final boss?" I spent the whole game thinking that and was very, very disappointed. Still, this is about openings, and GoW 3 delivered there for sure.

*SPOILER ALERT*
In that opening, beating the shit out of Poseidon while watching it through his eyes was fucking awesome.
*END SPOILER*

Mass Effect 2, it's just a great sequence. You get killed in an exceptionally cinematic piece of work. It really was creepy stepping onto the deck of the normandy with it exposed to the vacuum of space the planet in view and no sound but your breathing.
Yeah, spoiler alert btw.

That, or the original Mass Effect's intro. Just something about it...
If I have actually spoiled that for anyone I'll eat my arse clean off it's hinges. This was something everyone KNEW before the game was even released.
i have tto disagree with you since, i wanted to be spoil free of the game when i heard it was coming out. Every update and everything i had to ignore, it was HARD. And when that scene happened at the beginning i began to shit bricks EVERYWHERE

OT: The first Halo had a great intro. As well as Fallout 3. Mainly the first tim you get out of the vault

Metal Gear Solid 2 had a really good intro, or maybe it seems that way because of the rest of the game
I assume you mean the intro to the tanker part?
Because that was awesome, a really great re-introduction to Snake and the score was incredible.

Half Life, a normal day at work...until
I love that start, it is great and provides a great vision about the size of Black Mesa

Metal Gear Solid 3. That HALO jump, the soundtrack. It might be better to just show you.

Don't know which version I like better.

Gonna say, ALL the God of War games.
Whether it be fighting the Basilisk during a war in Chains of Olympus, On a ship fighting the many heads of the Hyrda, fighting the Colossus of Rhodes or standing on one of the Titans as it climbs up mount olympus (with the view of the others climbing up aswell) as the Gods take them out one by one only to end it with beatdown against a Giant water avatar of Poseidon eventually killing the GOD OF THE SEA as you do so.
I do not know how many times I have said "Holy Shit" during even one of these intros.

I may never see a game that starts as intense as Indigo Prophecy.

Side note: the press start explosion in Infamous was pretty swank too.

Crew Expendable wasn't the opening to Modern Warfare, though. The opening entailed Dan from Eastenders telling you to "knife a watermelon" before Johny Allen from Eastenders called you a "muppet".

World at War's opening, Semper Fi, was a really cool level.

The opening cinematic to the first Left 4 Dead was also incredibly well done, and escorting the Joker through Arkham Asylum was great. GTA IV had a very slick introduction too.

Half-Life 2, with G-Man's speech:

Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman, rise and shine. Not to intend you have been sleeping on the job. No one else in the world is more deserving of a rest. Without you, all of humanities efforts would've gone to... well, let's just say your hour has come again...

*pause*

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

So, wake up, Mr. Freeman, wake up and, smell the ashes.

I'd have to say Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2

There are probably other epic intros which I cannot remember atm ;)

the best is infamous. with a press of a single button to destroy the city.
This.

Also the best ending, the story gets fully revealed and somehow makes the game twice as awesome.

Mass Effect 2 and Titan Quest. Left 4 Dead was good, but I still haven't been able to find any love for any of the L4D2 characters. Most likely because the original four seemed to care a bit about each other and the new ones are assholes.

Mass Effect 2, with the destruction of the Normandy. That ship was with you throughout Mass Effect 1, was pretty sad to see it blow up.

Half Life 2. When I got to the part where your running through the apartment building as the combine are coming in for a raid, I was immersed more than I ever had been in any game previously.

I will go with the Bioshock opening scene. I did not expect to be in an airplane that all of a sudden crashes into the ocean. That scene left my mouth wide open.
