Hey there,

As the title suggests this is a thread regarding what you consider to be the single best level you've played in a game.

You know how it is, your happily plowing your way through a game, it could be a great, classic game or just an average piece, but you come across one level and it all just clicks. Its like the level designed had a sudden dose of inspiration and all the gameplay, story and style of the game just come together and you have a truly excellent time of it. A great level can make a great game perfect and an average game great, at least for the duration.

So whats your favourite level?

I'm gonna have 2 cos I feel decadent today
1. Lungfishopolis from Psychonauts. Just the most fabulous thing I've played in ages.
2. Shalebridge Cradle from Thief 3. Scarier than the prospect of a Uwe Boll film about Mario Kart.

If you haven't played either of these levels (especially Lungfishopolis) then I suggest you grab the games and give em a whirl. Psychonaut's is £5.99 on Steam and this level is worth the entrance price alone in my opinion.

Anyway, lets here your best level, guys and girls.

Schlos Base defense from Project Sylpheed. flying around a high-altitude grav-lift defending it from a horde of bad guys, fun times. Especially when you redo the level later on, after obtaining the Maelstrom Bomb. Since the enemy fighters all approach the station in a large cloud if you fire this at them and hit ANY of them it'll wipe out the entire lot in an instant.

Only problem being, since it's an atmosphere level as opposed to open space you need to go turbo before firing it or else gravity will make it useless.

Siberia on hard difficulty from Timesplitters 2... I played that so many times I knew where all the enemies would appear... headshots all the way through... godlike on co-op

I Don't Remember The Game but there was one where after the whole game alone you meet up with a whole army and just hold of in a base, against million of these bug things tarship tropper style, like thelast mission of DOWII but the bug dont have gun and its FPS.

Despite the crappy car physics, '59th Street' level from Alone in the Dark is among my favourites, purely because it's so amazingly epic. Seriously, watch it now, and fall in love with the music.

Toughie...Maybe the Earth Temple in Wind Waker (yes, I actually enjoyed part of that game). Climbing the Tower of Dawn at the end of Prince of Persia, Sands of Time. The absence of enemies and emphasis on runny-jumpy-climby is just serene, also the sky and background are wonderful.

OMG Skytown from Metroid Prime 3!! Beautiful design, lovely music, and tricky puzzles with challenging enemies. I feel at home there.

Probably fighting either the flying Colossus in the lake or the final Colosuss in Shadow of the Colossus.

I was thinking the very same thing.
Also, I love the final Strider battle in HL2 Episode 2 (yes, I'm a Valve fanboy...)

Also, I think that Fort Frolic in Bioshock was great: ok, the gameplay was as meh as it was in the rest of the game, but the utter madness of Sander Cohen made that bit one of my favorite sections of the game.

Same here, although I really liked the first Forsaken Fortress runthrough, being all sneaky and whatnot.

The final level, Wario's Castle I think it was called, in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (which was Wario's first appearance ever) for the GameBoy Color. I spent hours on that level, it was so difficult.

I always hated navigating that place but it is still awesome.

Metropolis Zone in Sonic TH2. The only level that had 3 acts plus music that was constantly stuck in my head.

pretty much any level from uncharted. more specifically any level that allowed you to combine awesome platforming while blowing people's heads off.
