4.Rainbow 6 Vegas 2
3.Mario Kart Double Dash
2.Super Smash Bros Melee
1.Timesplitters 2

I know I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but the Halo series has always been pretty good for local multiplayer games. Not the best game in the world I know but the one I would've said (Timesplitters) is already up there.

Goldeneye, plus you can always have fun with a room full of people and a tekken game until someone remembers how to make law backflip over and over again then the swearing begins and the game spills into reality momentarily.

Battlestations Midway was a fun LAN game to play.

Hmm, cube or PS3, well, I guess Rock Band is fine candidate, but it costs an arm and a leg.

Don't know whether you can play PS1 games on a PS3 but Crash Team Racing is always a party favourite of mine and my friends.

And I was about to suggest Timesplitters. I suppose ill second Rock Band, and mention GRAW. It has loads of fun little co-op options for local play.

Smash is always fun with the right bunch of friends. Hardcore players might only want to play on Final Destination with no items, but for me, it doesn't get much more fun than Mushroomy Kingdom or Big Blue with all items turned on.

Can't go wrong with Mario Kart: Double Dash. MK Wii is pretty fun too, I guess, but I like Double Dash's sense of teamwork more. Plus, you can have four people playing at once and only split the screen in half, as opposed to splitting it into fourths.

Mario Party is always incredible, but only for the first few rounds. I wouldn't say I could play it all night.

Finally, I'll go out on a limb here and say that Halo has some pretty fun local options. Considering the huge amount of customization available, it's sort of like having a shooter, a racing game and a platformer all in one. If that aspect doesn't do it for you, I've always thought that while LIVE is great, there's nothing like shooting a friend in the face who's sitting right next to you, possibly within punching distance. The fans of Goldeneye 64 know this, I'm sure.

Those were the days...that game was amazing!

As for a LAN game, you gotta go with an FPS, because its the classic format. I'd say current - gen, either Gears of War, RSV2 or Halo 3.

But then again - I do own a 360, so I would say games I know.

Mario kart 64 was a major competition back in the day.

Every LAN party is fun. Except a little too much of Unreal Tournament 99. Everyone is on the rocket for the multiplayer.

here's hoping Fable 2's local multiplayer will be half decent, not "best", or even making a top list

but I just want to play through it with a friend

Mashed : Fully Loaded!

A brilliant alternative to Mario Kart. With Airstrikes!

(been mentioned recently on another topic I think)
