ok escapist please help me out I am trying to write my best mans speech for one of my best friends wedding but I am running out of (clean, not too derogatory) jokes to tell.

Does anyone have any good ones? I understand you dont know the guy and I dont want it to be too personal anyway but im looking for light hearted faintly mocking jokes basically nothing too edgy I really dont want to offend people and I know for a fact some are quite touchy (which is why I am struggling with material).

I am trying to come up with my own stuff mostly I dont want it to be a copy paste speech but I am only mortal and am really really crap when it comes to talking in general let alone public speaking. So any good lines/stories I can possibly adapt or tips would be most appreciated.

I am addressing about 110 people (most of which I dont know) to give you an idea so things have to be pretty broad.

Captcha: get over it. Damn you captcha im trying.

Also I have checked specialist websites that deal with this stuff but most are horribly cliche Ive used one or two but most seem to have been repeated to death I just want to see if anyone has anything different.

Ooh I will await with bated breath on this one as I, too, am going to be serving as best man for a friend's wedding. We're still several months out so I haven't started anything yet.

Now that I've posted though, I might as well contribute. Have you tried some self-deprecating humour? Nothing over the top that will make it look like you're one scotch away from hanging from the rafters but injecting such a joke or two in to your speech will definitely help break the ice.

Just write from the heart, don't try to be funny if it doesn't come naturally. I don't think the best man has to be the joker, in the weddings I have been too, the best man has always giving heart felt speeches, with little joking. It actually seems to be the parents that give the embarrassing stuff alot.

Try not to use too many inside jokes, it's funny once, but it gets old.

Yes I have included a bit in fact my opening line is self deprecating but on the whole I havent added too much I dont want it to be about my own inadequacies after all.

Cheers im not forcing humour im not coming out and going hey everyone lets have a laugh I cant do that and if I tried it would be embarrassing for everyone that said I am quite jokey in general when I speak, deep from the heart speeches would also be at odds with me and equally awkward I generally speak lightheartedly and thats the tone I am going for and what I think the groom is expecting. Also I am not using any inside jokes as it would be pointless for a crowd of that size. Oh and the parents of the groom wont be speaking just the brides parents so no embarrassing stuff will come from them at least not on a public speaking level.

Cheers for the help though keep it coming.

EDIT: the weddings less than 2 weeks away so I am quite organized compared to usual, most times like this I just down 15 pints and see what happens on the day but I have the feeling some may find that a bit frivolous of me on this occasion.
