Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Hands down in my opinion the best mario game ever. Had a unique storyline, Spawned many new ideas for mario, even made him team up with his mortal enemy. The Charaters were all memorable, had an amazing battle system, it even had guest appearances. I loved this game, still have it's original cartrige and still play it whenever I'm in the mood for a decent rpg.
No matter what anyone says, it won;t change my mind on this choice.

I have played it. I can't argue with you on Galaxy because i haven't played it. My favorite old Mario game is super mario bros. The one for the gameboy colorShapsters said:

I think Super Mario Bros 1 or Super Mario Bros. 3. I love those games. Although I haven't played Galaxy yet...
Super Mario World for SNES. If I was on an island with one game that would be it fa show! Galaxy is awesome, but how could you beat playing a level called "gnarly"? Can't. Not only best Mario game but best game ever.
