Garry's Mod (I win)
And all the various others for the Source Engine. Dang, that thing is modular!

Not out yet (mainly) but I'm really really impressed by the Tamriel Rebuild mod for Morrowind (and Oblivion for that matter).

And the Empire Mod for Homeworld 2. I forget what it's called exactly, but you can build Executor super star destroyers that take up half the map, so... awesome.

I'm gonna go WAY off the beaten path here and say Half-Quake: Amen for Half-Life 1. Really good music, offbeat humor, and dragons who cannot fly. True, the Hard difficulty is deliberately set to be unbeatable, but what do you expect from a Mod that prides itself on sadism?

I think Garry's mod wins hands down, but for anyone thats played 007 Nightfire, the WWII mod for it was the best. Also I can't wait for Black Mesa Source

While Crysis sucks, its engine thrives on all the random stuff people have made from it. I can't name any mods in particular, though.

I'll plump for Mooman's Rules for Red Alert 2 & YR.
wow, that takes me back...

had some insane fun editing YR back in the day.
I wouldn't consider myself having modding skills, but all the utilities floating around on the internet made creating original content so easy that even I was able to learn. Before I knew it I was making custom voxels and digging them out of past C&C games for use in my creations.

ballistic weapons: gold edition, favorite weapons pack for UT2004 next to "Weapons of EVIL!" and some of the chaos weapons. I still play the old copy of UT2004 on my hard drive with ballistic weapons and the duke nukem voice pack... and probably about 20 other custom mutators stuffed in for good measure.

Sven Coop for HL1. I can't wait for the one for HL2 but it gets delayed so much we'll probably never see it.

My favorite mod of all time is The Battlegrounds 1 and 2 for Half Life Deathmatch and Deathmatch: Source, respectively. It's about the American Revolution, and allows you to play as a British regular or an American volunteer in several large multiplayer maps. Each side has three character classes.

The weapons are flintlock muskets and rifles, swords, knives, and bayonets. Reloading is slow (they are breach-loaders, after all), something like 7 seconds, so when the action gets close and your weapon is discharged, you resort to the bayonet.

The game has a great community and is still being tweaked and added to. Look for the player Rooster Cogburn. Check it out: www.bgmod.com

Blitzkrieg II for C&C Zero Hour.

Wait, no. Inquisition Daemonhunt for Dark Crusade. Makes the Grey Knights into a full race, complete with Land Raider Crusaders and Grey Knight Terminators. Personally, I think the Grey Knights are underpowered in most aspects, but being able to deep-strike a Land Raider makes it worth the trouble.

Would you say it's worth getting Crysis just for the mods? I'd play the game itself if I bought it, but I wouldn't be interested at all were it not for the mods.
