Hmm, since the point Life of Brian is making is still relevant all this years later, I'd give it to Brian
It has the advantage of having a point, though, it's got quite a few things to say about societal (rather than Arthurian legend and films thereof), making it more relevant.

Not sure if Life of Brian has become more or less funny as I've gotten older, a lot of scenes have stopped being silly and become depressingly real.

Is there some sort of weird hipster shit going on in this thread, with multiple people marking how often something is quoted against it?
What does "hipster" even mean when used like that as it so often is these days? Does it mean "faking being different to attempt to look cool" by any chance? Because nobody could possibly actually have such an option of course, could they...no, they must surely be lying. Not a good coping strategy, that, to be frank. What about considering that comedy doesn't do so good when repeated ad-nauseum, and personally I find it rather weird that anybody can find the same joke funny when it's done the 1000th time without wanting to kill themselves inside. Also Christianity jokes are so fucking low-hanging mockery fruit at this point, everybody and their mum's pregnant cat has had a turn at it. Hipster shit for sure to think that, can't possibly be real
Can a joke wear upon re-telling? sure.

Does that fault lay on the original joke though? Or is it a problem with the re-teller? When a joke is re-used again and again, that is a mark against the re-tellers, not against the original joke.

To say you dont like something because it has become popular is...well, you do you.

If so, I was doing it before it was cool.

Life of Brian is probably the 'better' film, but The Meaning of Life is my favourite. So many unforgettable moments.

That's not what I said at all. There are plenty of popular things I enjoy. But not that, and I explained why but you're not getting it, either intentionally or not. If you need to mutate somebody's opinion to something else as the only way to accept it, then that's on you. But it's not a recommended strategy.

What have I mutated? You made the comments that a joke heard 1000 times is no longer funny. I didnt refute that, but stated that other people repeating a joke 1000 times shouldnt diminish the original telling. The joke, within it's original appearance is funny. The person re-telling such a well known joke is unfunny.

And the bit about popularity is just the natural progression of the 1000 times. Obviously if you're hearing the same joke repeated ad-nauseum is a popular joke. And you dont like it because you've heard it 1000 times. So you dont like it, because its popular enough to have been retold so many times as to blunten its entertainment value.

Eh, honestly, Monty Python never really did much for me. Sure, I've seen the films and parts of the Flying Circus, but I can't remember the works themselves ever so much as getting a chuckle out of me. Looking back, I guess I view them in much the same way that I view memes, in that to me their humor value feels tied to them being cited as a referential in-joke rather the work itself being funny.
