Best Opening Scene in a Movie

What is your favourite opening scene in a movie, one that really grabs your attention and makes you want to watch the rest

Some of my favourites include the Dark Knight bank robbery scene
Super Troopers freaking out the pot heads in the car
and the latest Star Trek film with the Romulan fight

Seriously, I've never seen such an amazing opener to a movie. It had emotion, it showed us the happy and sometimes tragic lives of two people in love, and the ultimate fate of the relationship. And it did this without words.

The Great Santini had a great opening, very funny. Additionally, Below and Run Silent, Run Deep should be mentioned.

Currently I'm watching El Topo and it has to be the strangest opening scene in anything ever.

Ninja'd by the OP, with The Dark Knight. Seeing the Joker kill off his own henchmen too, really added to the psycho aspect of the character .

Also, I love the opening to Romeo + Juliet. We see the street fight from the play end up as a punk-rock soundtracked petrol station shootout with comedic moments and massive explosions. And this is just in the first five minutes... .

I liked the opening of Severance, the bleak opening showing the first death (guy gets caught in one of those hanging by your leg upside down traps) then the camera rotates as his lifesblood flows down his body after he is stabbed by a knife that puts Crocadile Dundee to shame. Then Itchycoo Park by The Small Faces comes on, made me giggle my socks off.

They actually eventually included it in later copies of the song, because people were expecting it

I don't know what to say is the best opening but Apocalypse Now was Great all the way through, Raging Bull too, and The Matrix was Awesome for Openings. I can't really think of a lot right now.
