I've always liked (ever since I first saw it) L4D2's opening cinematic.

"...Wait for official instruction. Huh, wait my ass."
"Kill all sons of bitches. That's my official instruction."
Kick door open, explodes zombie head with shottie.

Good times.

This one really does set the tone. Somber, mysterious, and epic.

Edit: Oh and of course the N64 Zelda games!

I would say my favorites are Bioshock, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and of course, God of War 3.
The best part is near the end of the intro where you come up against one of the Big Three:
I don't know how to embed the youtube video, but here's the link:
I forgot how good the first Halo's intro was, I hated the other ones though.
Metroid Prime 1 had a really good sci-fi intro as well.

Two other older intro gems were Age of Kings and Age of Mythology:

This should be on everyone's list. So many hours wasted, and such a great introscene! Red Alert!
Also..how do you place movies ;( tried the embedcode but didn't work.?

Id say the Fallout 3 Vault 101 tutorial does a very impressive job of immersing you in the world around you. Too many games start with a confusing hell torn battle sequence that just abandons all pacing for schizophrenic craziness. Fallout starts with just the right amount of action to make some character decisions and allows you to build an emotional connection with the people around you, mainly Amata and your Dad.

The best intro I had seen in recent years is, no doubt, Bioshock. I even show it to several people that don't play videogames, and they agree its impressive.

I liked it better than other intros (like Starcraft 2, Warcraft 3 or Final Fantasy XIII), because its gameplay, not FMV.

I personally enjoy Left 4 Dead's intro. Watching it definitely set the mood for the game, at least for me. I'm also a fan of RPG/JRPG intros, moreso the JRPG intros. Though I can never seem to think of any that I'd call the best. I like the Kingdom Hearts intro, if only for the song. Loved that song. :}

"THIS USED TO BE A NICE NEIGHBORHOOD!" Punches Zombie in the skull.

Gotta love Coach.

I'm pretty sure I can think of a better one, but on the spot, I've got to say Dissidia: Final Fantasy was just badass.

Ahh yes, two fond games of my childhood. This was a badass trailer that blew me away. However I was just disappointed that it's going to be an MMO *sigh* [sub]dammit[/sub].

For me one of my personal favorites is from Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. The characters and the music helped to set a chilling, while still epic intro in my opinion. That and I am a huge R&C fan and I had been waiting for the game since Quest for Booty.
