Sometimes I make a post that I just love. Theres just something about it-- maybe it was clever or witty, maybe it really got the knife in there between the ribs-- who knows. But some of my absolute favorites go totally uncommented, unquoted, and forgotten to the digital tides of the internet tubes, while other little half-ass posts net me five or more quoted! messages and several friend requests.

Use this thread to chronicle your best posts, your favorite posts, your epic posts-- that were otherwise lost to the sands of time (and "use the #*%&#@% searchbar spam")

I try not to quote people too much, as an example if this was any other site then MaxtheReaper would make a comment and their would be 100's of replies saying "LOL".

Thats my excuse for my wit not being quoted anyway, were better than that!.

*curls up into the fetal position*

edit: you can cut the irony in this thread with a fucking knife.

Can I link to my own thread, or is that plugging?

Anyway, I enjoyed writing my "tips for creating an excellent thread (not involving Halo)" OP. It was a lot of fun, but I get the impression nobody read the topic... Then some other jerk nice fellow made a very similar thread a week or so later. But nobody read that one, either.

The moral: People hate self-improvement.

Typically, the most likely post to get responses involves bribary in the form of cookies and some kind of pop culture reference.
Can I bribe you with pop culture and make a cookie reference?

Heck, I made a whole thread I thought was very well thought out. No-one replied. It was about how few games out there where you can see real affection between people. While Brutal Legend actually have this. I even called the thread Brutal Love, which I think was very clever. No replies :( That was when I realized that I am not a thread maker. I'm a poster. And I am happy that way.

It's almost as if the less I spend time on formulating a post, the more likely it is to be quoted or replied to.

Yeah, I only get replies if I spend a half-hour carpet-bombing the Escapist with 2 or 3 line posts that I don't think about.

I feel very self-conscious about quoting in this thread...

Absolutely. The more vague a topic is, the more people can just ignore the loose guidelines and fill the thread with whatever Twitter crap they feel like.

Yup. But that's what you get when you've got such a low self-esteem that it bothers you when no one's replying to your insightful posts. :D

You validate me.

(still carpet-bombing here)

I get times when I make a really well thought out and cohesive post that wasn't quite a wall of text, was just the right length for somebody to analyze and respond to, and nobody does. Yet I make a short, after thought of a post and I get quoted by the bucketload. And of course, it can also be a little more sinister, like my "scribblenauts" debacle.

*sigh* I wish yahtzee hadn't reviewed that game, it would have saved me the pain.

People do not want to waste their time quoting boring posts that are correct in their details, or which are only mildly objectionable. Good posts should also stand on their own and there is nothing that can be reasonably added to them.

BTW I am both posting this and submitting it as my well thought out post that no one has replied to.

Diagonal Horizontality once said to me something that can pretty much sum that up: 'spam begets further spam [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.141598?page=3#3193150]'. What extremely annoys me is that he is right with that statement. I remember once seeing a thread called 'Talk about whatever the hell you want' which ended up going by so fast that you couldn't post a decent post without another page of posts going up beforehand. The sheer fact that the majority of those posts were from about two/ three people made it even stupider, and the thread ended up going on for over 12 pages in the, at most half hour it was up for. And then, of course I have heard the stories of 'FAQ You!'.

And in turn, threads about serious discussion and have had lots of though put into then barely get past one page. I have made very few threads in my time here, but the only one which I have put some real thought into only got six replies, and two of them were from me responding to people's posts.

I also don't like the cyber celebrityism that users get for these posts as well. MaxTheReaper is a key example of this, where his sarcasm would get him 20 replies per post in the days of old, and whilst he has gotten a lot more serious about it now, that sheer fact that he became a celebrity for it does shine through still (although this flaw is very common amoung other forums as well, I have noticed). In turn, other users can post a really well thought out piece of text and get nowhere for it; I have spent over three hours writing something to get no responses from it at all. It's annoying and makes me think that people don't actually care about what I write. Though it then feels nice if someone quotes me and thanks me for mentioning something on the thread.

On topic, I guess the most recent post that I'm proud of writing which no one quoted would be this one [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.149214#3511704]. I would find more but that would mean having to search through the remaining 4700ish posts of mine that lie about on this site.

EDIT: I just remembered a thread from a few weeks back asking whether or not it was good to post in a troll thread. It was shocking not just the number of people who thought it was justified but also who the specific people were that thought it was justified [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.153555#3692439].

I don't think I have a personal post like that... I just write my thing and if people quote me then they do, if they don't they don't. This seems more appropriate for things I write on Facebook. They're witty! Why don't people respond!?
