For my money it was the .hack// and .hack//G.U. series. When I boot up my PS2 I would rather play those games than just about anything else in my collection.

Damn, why was last gen so much better than this gen?
That is always the case with everything. 90's had better music, 80's had better movies, etc. etc. We look back fondly on them and overlook their flaws. For every Rage Against the Machine there is a Creed, for every Die Hard there is a Tango and Cash. For every Ico there is an FFX-2. Hell, I hated the PS2 at the time. Nothing compaired to Xenogears or FF:Tactics. When the PS1 was out I hated that nothing compaired to FFVI, FFIV and Chrono Trigger.

That being said it is hard for me to pinpoint a favorite PS2 game. I consider that gen to be the death of linear JRPGs or at least ones that made any damn sense plot wise. Ico was brilliant, so that gets my vote.

Okami is the best PS2 game as far as I'm concerned. I actually prefer the PS2 version to the Wii version.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater definitely got the most playtime from me, so I'm going with that.
That or... Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening or Kingdom Hearts II.

Though I don?t doubt that me becoming a grumpy old man has something to do with it; I?ve been playing games since the Intellivision and Atari and in my opinion they kept getting better... Up until this gen where online and dlc is supposed to make up for games with very little content or features.
Sure there are some great games this gen but I haven?t played a driving game as diverse as Burnout Revenge or a game as weird as Katamari (except maybe this gen?s Katamari games). Fallout 3 came pretty close to the San Andreas feeling that I was wandering around a real world that I would never see every corner of but there?s little left to do in DC once you?ve cleared it out... It needed something like ?turf wars? where you would get word of an Enclave attack on a settlement you would have to rescue or something like that.
With the emergence of dlc on this gen?s consoles, the publishers see dollar signs and I wonder if we?ll ever see a game as diverse and huge as San Andreas ever again.

Final Fantasy X.
The last truly great FF and my favorite PS2 game.
Good to know someone agrees with me :)

OT: I cannot pick just one. FF 10, Devil may Cry 1 and 3 and Ratchet and Clank 1,2 and 3.

I absolutely LOVE Kingdom Hearts and KHII. So that gets my vote. Special mention to FFXII, which I actually loved despite what some have said about it, and Spider-Man 2, which was just so much better than expected.

Two of the best games that game out on the PS2 in my eyes were:

Soul Nomad And The World Eaters

S.L.A.I.

I don't know...
For me, I'm torn between Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts (1, not 2), and the Devil May Cry series. All games I sunk far more of my life into than I'd care to mention.

I have so far only seen one person say TimeSplitters 2.

The Escapist, you disappoint me.

Rogue Galaxy is the proto-typical JRPG plotline with a Star Wars (New Hope) flair.

Probably the best example of a JRPG done right.
Thank you for reminding me that I still need to beat my copy of that.

I'm going to go with Persona 4. Can't really think of any other game more deserving.
