So I've recently been playing Stardrive and Distant Worlds, and I must say I like them better than either Endless Space or Gal Civ 2. They feel more bureaucratic to me, and thus like I'm actually running an empire.

What do you guys think? Got any favorite space management games? Any suggestions for other quality space sims?

It's GalCiv2. Star Drive fucking sucks. There's no endgame, there's ridiculous lag issues on high end rigs, and there's no tutorial AT ALL.

I didn't notice any lag issues with Star Drive, but to be fair, I also haven't completed a full game. I like that time keeps moving, as opposed to the turn based nature of GalCic2.

I'm quite fond of Star Ruler, especially with the "Galactic Armory" mod.

Imperium Galactica from 2000 is still unsurpassed. Space Empires IV is also quite nice with the right mods.

GalCiv has always felt like a 4X lite to me, and most of the others also felt quite lacking.

GalCiv2 is the End all Be all of Space-based 4X strategy games.

However, you asked for a Space Management Sim. That would have to be either Space Colony or Startopia.

I was going to suggest Endless Space but apparently you're not a fan.

I'd also give Sword of the Stars a go. The first one at least. You'd have to ask someone else about the second, it had a rocky start so I held out for patches, but then got distracted and have never gone back and checked up on its status.

Best space management simulator? I think Tetris would be the best. Sure it's old but it is a classic and it really does require good space management.

X3: Terran Conflict. [http://store.steampowered.com/app/2820/?snr=1_7_15__13]

You can go from having a small, dinky fighter to leading your own armadas.
