Best Survival Horror?

Title says it all, what is your vote for the all time greatest survival horror game.

I wish the gaming industry would pay more attention to this area of games; video games have the greatest ability to scare people because they have the greatest immersion factor. Its not you watching someone get ripped limb from limb or walking down a hallway when the lights go out and things start moving, it IS you doing all of these things.

As for the question, my vote would have to go to Dead Space. Sure most of the scares were just jumps which is the lowest of the low on the fear tree but I loved the environment and the sound design was so amazing that i legitimately dreaded the next time a Necromorph decided to take a shot at me.

Good game but I wouldn't put it in the horror category.

I think Condemned; Criminal origins (That is the first condemned right?) is the best one.

I honestly say silent hill 1 was my fav for survival horror. It was really the scariest game to me. It just had such creepier enviornments to me *might be since it was the first and most environments were sorta reused in ways in other games*

Dead Rising. It is because it has the Emphasis on survival, with the horror part blending in well with the humour. Its a game that says 'here you go, you have a shopping mall, tons of zombies and 48 hours (6) to kill, go nuts and don't die.'
The other games have to forward a plot and that means that (mostly) the main character survives due to scripted events (or doesn't for some games, but that still means that it doesn't matter what you do) whereas in this, its all about you and your choices.

Plus you can use gardening utensils for something other than gardening!

Silent Hill 1&2, Resident Evil 1-3.

However as a kid i had this game called Akuji; it was about this guy who gets his heart ripped out and is taken control of by a Voodoo witch. Your job in the game is to kill the lady and stop the heart. The game scared the shit outta me as a kid even though now i know it was a simple Adventure/platformer.

Luigi's Mansion Project Zero/Fatal Frame. It may be too short, but it's definitely the most scary survival horror game. Taking on violent ghosts with nothing but a camera and a torch...

I think that would be Fatal Frame.

My vote definitly goes to either F.E.A.R or Bioshock (If you would consider it a survival horror)

The former becuase Alma freaks me out. That game was like "The Grudge" Scary.

The latter mainly becuase in the earlier chapters your not a walking superpowered freak with the power of Kicking Ass and Chewing Bubble Gum. All you had was a wrench,A pistol (Which if you used constantly should be just about out of ammo.) and a Tommy Gun that is conviently placed in a control room and one plasmid. That's it. You don't get a gernade launcher,You don't get super powerful plasmids that could kill in one shot (Sorry your gonna have to stick with two hits.) and the Splicers tend to be a bit more insane when there inside an Asylum.
