I started playing Tower Defense (hereafter reffered to as TD) games since Warcraft 3, although I'm sure the concept existed before then. Anyway I was wondering what people thought the best one available was, seeing as there are so many of them now. Plants Vs Zombies is excellent, and I also really like the flash-based Desktop TD Pro. But are there better ones than these?

Please reply with your favourite TD game and WHY you like it.

I like the Wintermaul type games in WC3, I've seen a few others but mostly the changes didn't make it more fun.

Gemcraft on newgrounds is pretty good. I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter

If you're gunna play a TD, which I really don't recomend, play Gemcraft Chapter 0.
Lots of content, tons of levels, and baddies galore. Check it out.

It depends on if you're wanting more of a "Here is where you can put towers and the enemies will go down this path" sort of game or a "Make a maze" type of game. For the make a maze type of game, 100% Wintermaul in WC3. For a path game, go for something like Pixeljunk Monsters or Savage Moon. Both are excellent.

Lock's Quest on DS was surprisingly good. Had some control issues but the game knew what it was, kept changing, and had a really good story. It's not often I'll put 12 hours into a game anymore but that did it and made it fun.

For me as of a day or so ago: Plants Vs. Zombies. I mean...hell is it awesome! Granted, adventure mode is a little too easy, but amongst the puzzles and minigames and survival mode...it's well...cost me a lot of sleep. A lot.

This

Also adventure mode is not as easy the second time. This a result of the increased difficulty and Crazy Dave forcing you to use terrible seed combinations sometimes.

Ahh wintermaul, much fun to be had there.

More recently, PvZ is of course a good one. I also purchased one called GeoDefence on my iPhone, stupidly addictive, wasted much of my time when I should be doing somthing else. Like work.

I don't know why, but why is it that so many Warcraft 3 related posts are all springing up now? Is it the Warcraft anniversarry or something?

On Topic: I like the one Blizzard shipped with FT personally.

Yeah, very good game. I got the demo and bought it 1 second after it expired. If you're willing to cough up $10, it's worth it.

WC3 TDs, Plants vs Zombies, and Defense Grid: The Awakening.

Both PvZ and Def. Grid have demos on Steam.

Defense Grid: The Awakening is on steam for $5.00 right now, normally it's 20. Sale lasts until the 13th. I'd say the game is for sure worth $5.00!

Desktop Tower Defense [http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/Game.asp] is by far the best.

Well, I would say Plants vs. Zombies if only for the theme music, but I've never played it, so I can't say.

The best ones I've played are both on the web: Viking Defense and Gemcraft.
