Best Videogame Skies

Do you mean "Skies" literally, or just "Skyboxes" as a general term? If the latter is allowed, Skyboxes are one of the two things Bulletstorm actually NAILED.

If you DO mean literal Sky, I'd have to say Halo Reach and Minecraft. The latter because it is infinitely entertaining to watch the starry dome gloss by overhead....

I wish that was longer, driving around the moon with Earth up there in the almost complete blackness was just gorgeous.

The sky in Amateria in Myst 3: Exile is gorgeous. Actually, the skies in Myst 3 and Myst 4 are exceptionally pretty

The sky in Fallout 3 was pretty majestic and the sky in Crimson Skies was pretty cool at times when it was filled with blimps that you could blow up and other planes attacking you.

acually, the sky is the one thing WoW does totally right. It's gorgeous, especially in the new area, like firelands, but sadly it's not the kind of game, were people really sit around and enjoy it.

Every time I landed on a new planet in ME1, the first thing I did was look up at the sky. There were some truly spectacular skyboxes, with multiple visible planets, stars, meteor falls, etc. Those were really well done.

Okay so this might be a bit odd but whenever I play a new game, one of the first things I do is look up at the sky.

So my question to you is: Which game have you played that has the most realistic or impressive sky? I was always real impressed by Obvivion's starry nights

The Normandy, looking up at that planet. Just wow.

Halo. Ringworlds are insane.

Also, Oblivion: at the parts when you approach an oblivion gate and the sky slowly becomes more and more hellish as you draw closer to it -- its ridiculously cool.

As far as realistic goes, I've never seen a more realistic sky or skybox than in STALKER: Call of Pripyat. As far as astonishing, the only ones that have really ever made me stop and look are the rings in the Halo series, because it always increased the immersion for me to see those rings just circling around in front of, to above and then behind the character.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the opening of Half-Life 2: Episode Two was astounding as well.
