You mean you cast bad spells? No wonder you're back to the present suddenly. If I was a wizard, I'd totally be next Thursday by now.
Take it from an expert, going forwards in time only leads to complications, after all when you do your past self no longer exists so there is no one to go forward its a paradox. Goingwards back is much easier.

Using all my magic to bend space and time is somewhat draining though so im afraid i'll have to log out now and goto sleep, i just hope i wake up in the future, visiting last week is a pain i have to write all the post's again and make sure they are the same so i dont break space time and implode the universe.

Yeah, I find it really irritating when that happens. On a scale from 1 to 10 it's definitely a 6 or a 7. I'd appreciate it if you don't do that, cheers.

That isn't his fault, Gandalf is awesome, but LoTR was very low magic fantasy, and Gandalf suffered for that.
I would say it's the other way around. The more you use magic the less magic there is in it. In the lord of the rings Gandalf casting a spell is a rare wonder. In The Wheel of time it's just something that some people do. I don't dislike the wheel of time(at least what I've read I'm only on the 3rd book) but my problem with the magic is it's too well defined. There's no mystery to it.

Bahh whatever. To each his own.

Yeah i get what your saying but the armor stinks of lazy writing and goes against pretty much everything the character has done or been through in the past, seriously gut's never relied on anything other than his skill and his commrades before even when he was a teenage mercenary, to suddenly change his character like than and give him the armor dependancy is pretty lame.
Same here.

What made Guts so engaging was that he accoplished everything on his own strength. It was basically inhuman, but he earned it through years of training, fighting demons, and generally suffering through a hellish existence. He didn't have some inherent magic or curse that gave him power, he was just a beast of a man with a giant sword. The Berserk armour turns him into every other shonen character that has a win button they can press whenever an enemy is too powerful.

Plus it just looks stupid, especially when you can see his eyes through the helmet -- He looks like freaking Big Daddy from Kick-Ass

Who are you kidding..? You're just making these threads so you can talk about Berserk so more.

What's next, 'Best Skeletal Themed Horseman in Fiction'? ;)
"Best Hand Based Deity Collection"
"Best Giant Sword in Fiction"
"Best Character named after internal organs"

OT:

Please People, this is no CAWS for debate!

Henry from Fire Emblem is Awakening is the best because puns, which I'm pretty sure is a victory by default in magic.

Gotta go with my main man, Quan Chi:

To start, he's a Kung-fu fighting Necromancer, which I should basically just be able to stop there, but he also has a cool voice, is kind of funny, and always seems to be 3 steps ahead of everyone else. He's like a way more bad-ass Hannibal from the A-Team.

Do Jedi count? If so, then Kyle freaking Katarn.

He was already a badass in Dark Forces, but he became goddamn unstoppable once he got Force powers. He defeated Jerec and his cohorts, successfully resisted the temptations of the dark side, and mowed down a veritable army of Force-wielding Reborn and Shadowtroopers...all with no formal Jedi training.

Give another vote to Harry Dresden.

Also Quick Ben from The Malazan Book of the Fallen. He has the souls of 12 other wizards trapped inside him and can single handily take out three dragons at once, but he always prefers to use mundane methods, tricks, and subtlety to solve his problems and he HATES calling attention to himself.

If we are allowed to do non-humans I'd go with Anomandaris Purake from the same series.

Vin from Mistborn.

And how on earth are we forgetting Kvothe the Arcane?

I don't know.

There are a few. The wizards in Negima! are amusing, (and quite powerful), but really my favourite will always be Pug/Milamber from many of Raymond E. Feist's works.

Midkamia may have been where he came from, but he ends up wandering some kind of multiverse fighting off horrors that threaten entire planets...

Plus, his wife, Miranda is also awesome, and who can forget his frequent associate, Nakor, the weird little man with his 'tricks'...

While the years of experience would give it to Belgarath, and many consider him the best of the best, his grandson Belgarion is leagues more powerful in raw Talent, and further still with the Orb. About the only thing past them is the Gods themselves in terms of what they can do with the Will and the Word.

Though, I'm not terribly sure if I'd describe him as a "Magic User" magic just seems to occasionally use him, whenever the mood takes it.
Yeah, I'm not sure if Rincewind counts. He's been described as the least magical being on the Disc. (Most people on the Disc are born with at least some level of magic. Rincewind was born with a negative level of magic) So magic using him is the way I'd put it.

You win an Internet for mentioning him, though. In terms of personality, he's the best wizard.

OT: Touhou's Marisa Kirisame is one of my favorites.

She's quite the atypical heroine. There's not many heroic things about her, at least. A cocky, snarky kleptomaniac (OK, so it doesn't sound that atypical, but it's a bit hard to explain...It's easier to just play the games and read the manga and see for yourself) who nontheless is extremely skilled and knowledgable in magic, all earned through hard work in a world where there are many who won the Super Power Lottery. (Which is one of the reasons why the Spell Card rules wwere created)

I quite like her. She's got an air of trolling to her, and she's quite amusing to see in action. Also, Master Spark. Cannot go wrong with that.

I'm sure he has already been mentioned but I would have to say Gandalf. Not because of his magic since we rarely get to see him use it but more so as the only person that had a hand in defeating Smaug, Saruman, and Sauron. He is basically the savior of Middle-Earth. If it wasn't for him and how he got all the good guys to work together Middle-Earth would have been ruled by Sauron and most likely Saruman too. I wouldn't be surprised if Gandalf is meant to be the main character.

Finally, someone has said it, and I agree, of course.
Pug is beyond a master wizard, and I would love to say more and take the scenes from the books, but that series is too good to spoil.

But all I need to say is that Pug goes beyond magic, and that he puts the "magic" in "magician". ;D

I'm... Gonna have to go with...

In the first book, he's Voldemort. Your generic cookie-cutter dark wizard. Meh. But in the later books... He is fleshed out and becomes... Much more interesting. ESPECIALLY in the Half-blood Prince where they delve into his entire history. Where you learn how he grew up. How he handled and overcame so many situations through his cunning and power to get what he wanted. How he inspired and got others to follow him. How he kept them all in line and made his mark on history and in the minds of everyone he met... It's just so interesting to me to read and to think about. He may have been a demonic evil bastard who got what was coming to him but there is no denying... He was legendary.

*bumps fist* Here's a wallpaper for ya'. http://i38.servimg.com/u/f38/14/26/98/51/jedikn10.jpg (Since it's an old wallpaper though, that's the biggest version of it there is unfortunately.)

BTW, his saber in your (otherwise pretty awesome) picture is the wrong one, to get a little technical.

While pretty much all of the characters in the Belgariad are really well written, I'd have to say Polgara's my favorite TBH. Only problem is, I believe the usual form she takes is a little bit lame. (An owl for those who haven't read the series.)

Well see, that all depends on what you count as "Best". Do you mean the mage with the most power? The mage with the most skill? The mage with the most intelligence and knowledge of how to use his power? The mage with the most discipline? The mage with the widest variety of abilities? The mage with the highest morals?
Well the answer to all of those is Seravy from Akazukin Cha Cha, who tops it all off with the most amusing and cute (though somewhat creepy) forms of insanity, an absolutely mind-boggling learning curve (he learned magic from seeing someone cast a spell) and *ahem* amazing non-magical disguise abilities....

Though Madame Xanadu (old-school version) is my favorite.
