I searched 'The Escapist' and I did not find many relevant threads. However, I found a post in the news archive...
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/94655-Bethesda-Sues-Interplay-Over-Fallout-MMO
---

They hate each other now. Yes, after the relationship from the agreement between both companies and the announcement of 'Fallout 3', Bethesda is attempting to destroy the regrouped company of Interplay over minorities relative to the size of Interplay's production rate at the moment which Bethesda regards as violations to their agreement. What are your views and opinions of this issue?

I personally think that the issue is quite ridiculous and it will have a decent solution soon, however from what I have seen recently, that does not seem to be happening. Seriously, as if someone would be drunk enough to buy 'Fallout Trilogy' without knowing it does not have Fallout 3?

For those of you who do not know, Interplay is basically the company who founded the Fallout series, which occurred before 2000. They were very successful, however then the series - in my opinion - reduced into "spin offs", which few apparently retained some of the series original quality (for example; Fallout Tactics), and cancelled or unsuccessful titles. Now the company has became active again, an is producing another title to the Fallout series which they are using the project name, 'Project V12', in their announcements.

I've been playing Fallout 2 on and off for the past couple of weeks, and I was wondering where all the appeal for the game comes from.

Can someone tell me? I really don't understand what's so great about.

Yes, there have been many conflicting issues within Interplay itself.

Project V13.

Old news.

I agree Interplay shouldn't be shut down, but they've already been given an extension, and their Fallout MMO still isn't out, and Bethesda wanted to make one of their own, so...

I don't know, Interplay broke the contract and they should suffer the consequences.

Believe me, I'd love to see a new MDK, a new Descent, a Fallout MMO, and a sequel to Earthworm Jim, but the way it's going - not likely.

Play Fallout 3, then you will probably understand.

They can make what ever they want as long as they change a couple things. Nuk-a-Cola? More like Pepsi-tomic!

Yeah, I agree with you. Most of their recent announcements of making sequels sound unpromising. Besides, what they really should do right now is produce something new.

What!? No!
The first two were decent in their own right.
And i actually enjoyed tactics.
You can't say you like Fallout, just because you enjoyed 3.
Every annoying fratboy and his dog played 3.
To truly appreciate the world and the story, you have to play one and two, otherwise you have no right to say you like Fallout.

I have played the first game in the series. What I was trying to say is, the founding titles of the Fallout series have gained publicity after being released separately along with Fallout 3.

Bethesda is being bitchy because their new money-cow might be milked by someone else. I'd be glad, too... at least Interplay would test for bugs...
Are you suggesting that Fallout 1+2 are any less buggy than Fallout 3?

Because that's simply not true. I had to stop playing Fallout 2 because the glitchs in my game became so bad it was nearly unplayable.

And what i'm getting at is it pisses me off how Fallout's only really gotten popular through the new one.
Sure one and two were great, but no-one really raved about them.
They're Raveable in their own right!

I think we all could have predicted that Fallout 3 fans would check out Fallout 1 and 2... and be disappointed. I don't really like to compare the two, myself. I liked both for different reasons.

Karma is a ***** for Interplay. With so much wreckage behind them it is not hard to see why life is kicking them in the proverbial balls.

This issue is not about what you wish to happen. Interplay sold full rights of the franchise to Beth. Interplay then were allowed to make a MMO based in the FO universe so long as the followed some rules. They did not. Beth even gave them extra time as I recall, and they still didn't. Bethesda did nothing wrong here. I would like to see what Interplay has to offer, however, they screwed up.

I always liked the FO universe, though I never much got into the games themselves, no matter how much I tried. Had to live vicariously.

While I support the history of Interplay/Black Isle, I do not support their complete lack of success to create anything more than vague promises and ideas without being able to actually create a Full game from start to finish.

Beth on the other hand... still make games.

Even an "Ok" Falllout MMO, at the hands of Beth, would be better than yet another Duke Nukem Forever style vaporware situation with Interplay. Honestly, I dont think fallout will make good grounds for an MMO to begin with, but thats another story.

I remember when Bethseda were behind that Pirates of the Caribbean Game,
True it had bugger all to do with the films, (the main reason I bought it)
But they had something going with a not half bad game, shame they had to stick it under a huge brand like PotC to get it too sell..

Oh poor ikle Interplay... Getting bullied by the big Bethesda.

Really people this is not a case of who is the most loveable teddy bear, they are both fairly competent companies handling huge amounts of money.
