I go through all the ruins, dungeons, underground settlements of survivors and ruined cities. One thing I always think with out hesitation or fail;

"I wish I could clean this place up and restore it"

Is that just me, or does anyone else get that feeling, to see a ruin in Oblivion it's best days long gone restored to former glory or a destroyed city in Fallout 3 cleaned up of the rubble and slowly rebuilt over time, personally I think it would be a rather cool addition, what about everyone else?

Well that really is your motivation for finishing the game in most of Bethesda's titles,
because if it was "here is a nice world, make it better" instead of "here's a hellhole of a place save it! save it now!" you would just go on a killing spree because you would be bored of everything being nice.

Although Fallout 3 tells you that something good happens(if you finished it that way) and oblivion's world gets worse after the story(especially near the temple in the imperial city)

But i would like to see something like, if you are good and lend the people of megaton(or any other Bethesda made town) scrap metal they would repair the town and if you didn't the people would have shit houses and be forced to live out in the street.

Ya it almost always seems you make things worse not better. That is of course if you have any impact on the settlements at all. I tried to do the right thing with Tenpenny Tower and the ghouls. I finished the Survival Guide and am still finding wastelander corpses all over the place. And Harold ended up being most disappointing.

Didn't really think of that.

All I know is that there is not a single outhouse in the entire land of cyrodil.

Me and my friend was discussing this about a month ago, they should've done it so when you complete the game everything changes in affect to what you did, if not, at least let us play Fallout 3 after completing it!

I interpreted the main post as wanting to fix up a specific ruin, not save the world, or change the world for the better, but to walk into a Dwemer ruin, repair the walls and robots, clean it up, and put it to use.

If I was correct in my interpretation, that would be awesome. I'd love to be able to do that, and then especially to do something with it.

In most games where it's possible I love looting, and kitting out people. Mercenaries, companions, whatever. It's just that in almost every one it doesn't matter. I'm not getting enough people to put my equipment to use, and I can't have everyone in my party, or have them matter anyway.

What I'd really like to see is a game that allowed that, throughout the story or whatever you gathered allies, and npcs, perhaps the nice guy you helped out with a quest can join you. You find a nice place to set up a base, perhaps an old ruin.

Then you bring what loot you can back there, equip your troops with it, and delegate tasks. This'd be like a sidequest of sorts throughout the whole game, and in the end-game, or after the end-game you get to see the fruits of your labour, and use it all. ALL of those npcs you gathered and kitted out help out in some great big war or whatever, you don't have to pick just one or two at a time.

Now that'd be awesome.

check the tempany tower now, and look in the basement.

Otherwise, yes that would be a really nice addition, if you don't have to spend the money in the game to do it.

In Oblivion there is a town which (if you choose to help the inhabitants), slowly gets built up over time. Just north of the Imperial city I think.

There was a fantastic series of quests about building a settlement in Solsthim in Bloodmoon the expansion for Morrowind. It worked because the new continent was so harsh and unforgiving, basically a frozen island, you managed to make this rustic haven.

Bah I can't. Well I can (and did) but that was with my goodie goodie character who is now quite dead. And my evil character who lives at Tenpenny is a ghoul racist.

Yeah, exactly. That's something that would be really awesome in games, to be able to feel like you're actually going home.

I would like to see my heroic actions rewarded with a tangible improvement in the world around me in an RPG like Oblivion. I'm not going to be big on doing the building, but Kvatch was flat-out depressing. I save the place single-handed, and kill every Daedra in there. I come back months later, and the city is still freaking ON FIRE.

Hell, even cleaning up one building and moving the surviving NPC's back in there in endless 'reconstruction' work would be a nice touch. Or putting out the fires. Something. Did I even save that town, or what?
