I am done blaming devs for microtransactions and shitty subscriptions. I blame all you who buy into it.

People criticize Bethesda for Horse Armor, but Bethesda stopped with that. But then everyone else did it and suddenly everyone is willing to whore out for character skins and loot crates. You guys have only yourselves to blame at this pint.

You arent forced to pay this, so just dont. I play ESO, I DONT pay for their unrequired subscription and I have well over 1000 hours played. But still people are willing to waste 15 a month just for a loot bag. Whatever, I have fun AND a bank account with money in it. Its your own fault if you cant spend responsibly.

OTOH, the shit hurricane this thing continues to be quite entertaining in a dark comedy sort of way. Epic Fail no longer describes this thing.
At this point it's starting to feel like the people still playing Fallout 76 only do it because it hurts so good.
I know it's stupid, but I occasionally wonder if FO76 isn't a wierd experiment on somebody's part to try to crash Bethesda's stock price. Possibly as part of a short selling scheme.

I mean, it's that or just a case of mind boggling mismanagement(which is more likely). To have this many unforced fuck ups in so short a time is just amazing.

You're absolutely right, no one here probably plays that dreck. But someone does. Someone does enough that Bethesda thinks it could do this thing.

Saelune is just using a turn of phrase that is common. It's like when someone says "America is racist towards minorities". I'm an American... but I'm also a minority. Am I racist to myself?

I took "You all" as gamers at large. I could be wrong, but I don't think Saelune thinks we're playing Fallout 76.

... wait, are we? What server are you guys on?

I want to follow up the joke with stating something about Fallout 76, but I literally know nothing about the game other than how horribly it's all failed. Are there classes or builds? I wanted to call myself a level 86 something or other, but I didn't know what to say :(

I gave it a run through back last year.

All the microtransactions were way too expensive for they were then too. And whatever you want to call it in terms of online survival or MMO was junk or nonexistent compared to any other game in those genres.

The actual baseline experience (Admittedly, I didn't run into the bugginess problem in my singular playthrough, save one dude running around on the ceiling) wasn't particularly worse then any of of the other modern Fallouts. Albeit told in a more environmental/atmospheric way due to the lack of NPCs.

From those I know still playing it, the "End game" is still just people nuking the one golf club to make legendary ghouls to farm up RNG super-guns, which is dull as dishwater. And the oddballs who aspire to the horribly broken PvP system (trust me, I had/have a weapon that causes someone to get -100% damage (which also worked on the final boss, amusingly)

Except ofcourse when you're targeting children and people who are prone to gambling addiction. Not to mention taking advantage of fan loyalty like this being scummy in and of itself.

I said I blame those who pay for microtransactions and wasteful subscriptions. If you dont do those things, I am not blaming you. I dont know the spending habits of anyone here, maybe none of you are guilty of what I am criticizing.

But I doubt it.

Hey, I do think these practices are garbage, but its been what? 15 years? And far too many people have rolled over and accepted it, and at this point they are the problem more than anything. Some of us have actually stuck to our guns and NOT bought into these shitty practices and my bank account thanks me, but I do not doubt plenty of people who condemned Horse Armor have since dropped too much cash on Overwatch skins or CS GO lootcrates.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if there were some higher ups in Bethesda deliberately trying to tank the company as some sort of stock market scheme or something.
Honestly, I think it's extended fallout from Carmack's departure from id and the Oculus lawsuit. Background info:

ZeniMax is privately owned and traded. A German mass media company called SBS previously held a 12.5% stake in ZeniMax, but divested in August, 2016 -- to whom was never publicly disclosed if I remember right. Another 25% stake was held by a venture capital firm called Providence Equity Partners, after two buy-ins during 2007 and 2010. The last news about that, came around the same time as the SBS divestiture, where word leaked Providence was looking to either divest or initiate an IPO.

August 2016 was when the trial was supposed to begin, until ZeniMax amended its complaint leading to the trial's delay. ZeniMax was awarded damages due to NDA violations and other shady actions, but they lost the intellectual property rights side of the case which was a pretty substantial blow.

My take is, investors got spooked at the possibility of going against Facebook in civil court, and either divested or successfully pressured Bethesda at the threat of divestment, into a development cycle, release schedule, and games portfolio typical of other triple-A publishers in an attempt to force growth.

Their selfishness knows no bounds. They should completely fix the game's huge pile of issues before even considering a subscription fee. I can't believe that people play this game.

Again though, most of the people who spend money on this stuff are children, people with gambling addictions, and people who are just not educated or aware of these predatory practices. Fact is these corporations are fully aware of what they're doing, consumers aren't or to a much lesser extent.

Yeah, technically you're right; if people simply didn't spend money on them they wouldn't exist. But people have bad habits, and a lot of them have trouble not acting on them. It then doesn't help when corporations try their damndest to take advantage of these bad habits, spending millions to worm themselves into every facet of their lives marketing it.

It's easy to stick to your guns when it's not a problem for you in the first place. It's a lot harder when you have an addiction or other problems that might cause you to have a moment of weakness. Not everyone can be strong enough to avoid this, and some are just really unlucky. Which is why pratices that expoit these types of people need to be regulated.

*shrug* I mean, I've bought platinum for Warframe because I like the game and wanted to support it, but I also maintain that it has a fairly consumer friendly F2P model (no lootboxes, player to player trading keeps platinum changing hands regularly to make premium currency purchases feasible for Free players, etc). Does that count, or are you just talking about skeevy microtransactions like SWTOR's "grand chance cubes"?

I suggest you actually figure out who on this website, if any, are actually doing this for Fallout 76 before you burst into a forum page talking shit.

Oh sure, Warframe is probably the least offensive of the F2P games, considering I have basically everything I could want and have spent literally not a single penny on it. But I also made sure not to spend literally a single penny on it. Meanwhile I am friends with a Warframe whale who shells out hundreds of dollars on the game and I think he wastes his money. Yes, I have told him as much too.

Okay, before we start flaming each other, let's have a reality check and remember FO76's premium service involves game features which were promised to be available to everyone at no additional cost, as well as quality of life improvements that have been requested at length by its player base, about which Bethesda representatives have been caught lying, repeatedly. And apparently, the key features of the $100/year subscription service aren't even working, and have actually introduced showstoppers to the game.

And this is just the latest capstone on the nonstop, hilarious, clusterfuck cavalcade that has been the game since the day it was announced at E3 last year. One that included a product recall because of toxic mold, which of 20,000 units produced only thirty-two were actually sold.

Is this really worth getting mad about?

Yeah, I can't be mad about this. It's more of tragic farce that keeps on giving where we all get to engage, point
at Bethesda and go HA HA!

Unlike the more serious and disturbing farces involving almost any US/UK politics these days, to pick so low lying fruit.

Can we not make general statements about certain actions/ behaviours/ trends without identifying specific forumites who're guilty of them?

Whether we can name one user is an irrelevance.

Fallout 1st is basically an ESO premium subscription, right down to offering exactly the same perks (ESO giving you full DLC access, 1st private servers). I think we can safely say that Fallout 76 is headed straight for the same spot of discounted base game with F2P-like MX, as it seems to have worked out quite well for ESO.

And yeah, I paid for a few months of ESO premium, so shoot me. =P
