Beware Titanfall Beta Scammers

"We have not revealed those details at this time," says Titanfall. What details? Well, pretty much all of them.

If you happened to notice a Beta test advert for Titanfall [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127036-Titanfall-Gameplay-Clip-Arrives-Fresh-From-Gamescom], the mech-based shoot-em-all due for Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, that advert was a filthy lie. "Please note that all sites advertising Beta access are 100% scams," Titanfall Tweets, after its triumphant but exhausting PAX experience. But the Titanfall team isn't in a hurry to release any other details; each Tweet asking about features like multiplayer splitscreen were met with "we have not released those details at this time."

Titanfall is Respawn's debut, and one of the most anticipated next generation titles. It popped up as a leak back in E3 reveal [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escapist-news-now/7439-Respawns-Titanfall-Game-Leaked]. This is an Xbox One exclusive, due for release sometime in spring 2014; though there will be a 360 version, that edition will be made by a different studio. The developers are aiming for a District 9 feel with Left 4 Dead storytelling style; that, and plenty of explosions, by the look of some of those trailers.

If you were looking for multiplayer action [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125297-Titanfall-Team-Decides-Against-Single-Player-Campaign] with hulking great mechs, look no further; but don't go looking for beta, at least not yet.

Um, isn't TitanFall also coming to the PC as well? To my knowledge that one is not being made by a different studio unlike the 360 version, so is it really an Xbox One exclusive?

OT: I'm actually surprised I've not seen more scammers when it comes to some of the games shown at E3 really because I usually see scams based around those games a couple of weeks after E3, not a couple of months.

This sort of thing always happens to widely-anticipated games. I've been browsing the Bungie forums, and there have been many scams about signing up for the beta of Destiny. I just find it hard to believe that people can be so excited for a game, and yet not be connected enough to the developers making it to know whether or not there is a beta or where to sign up for it.

TitanFall is also available for Windows, though it is unknown what version of it (7 or 8). I just hope it comes out for Win 7 64-bit instead of Win8 (servers are going to be missing forever if it comes out for Win8, nearly nobody who uses Win8 actually uses it to play games).

Back on topic, it's nice that a warning about the beta scammers goes out.

I think it is one of those cases where they call a game "exclusive" just because it is coming out on just one console. Or maybe it is a "timed exclusive"? I don't know what the launch date is but it'll probably also be a "launch title" even though coming out after the console...
There is just so much marketing BS going around the xbone, people don't know whats right and what is made up/"marketingspeech" anymore.

Anyways, if I'd gotten a beta key for every Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 beta scam email I got, I'd probably be a millionaire from selling them on ebay.

None of these. Titanfall is a launch window title, and people just call it an "exclusive" because it was called that at the E3 XBOne press conference. At the EA conference, Titanfall was confirmed for the X360, XBOne, and the PC. No wonder, considering all of the XBOne displays at E3 were Win7 x64 PCs.

Great, thanks for clearing it up! But why did they call it an exclusive in the first place? Was it just "exclusive footage" or something like that? What I was aiming at is mainly that a lot of the marketing talk surrounding the consoles need to be scrutinized for BS.

Happy to help.
As far as I can tell, the footage wasn't really exclusive to the XBOne E3 conference. Though if I remember correctly, the only thing we got to see at EA's E3 press conference was dev commentary on the game. Ther might've been something along the lines of "show this trailer first at Microsoft's E3 press conference so we can claim it's an XBox exclusive" going on.
So yes, it is marketing BS.
