BF2142

I bought Battlefield 2142 yesterday and installed it. It works fine until I start a game. In multiplayer it immediately crashes to the desktop with no error message or anything. If single player them map loads but it crashes when it says "Starting Game". It also immediately crashes when I open the audio settings. I looked up fixes for it and tried maybe ten different solutions but nothing works.
Note: My computer FAR surpasses all of the recommended specs

Well, my first suggestions are to update your drivers and check for any patches. If that doesn't work go ahead and get back to us.

have you tried searching your problem on google/ea forums to see if anyone else has had that problem?

Are you running Vista? Battlefield has a few compatibility issues.

I may be totally wrong about this but I swear I remember the latest drivers for nvidia cards which added the physx feature caused problems with 2142.

As I say I may be utterly wrong. But its worth a look.

Go start > run > dxdiag

Under sound tab turn hardware acceleration completly off.

Thats what worked with my mates XP system.

Umm, whatever one else before me has said. I would lay money on vista being the problem if you are running it. Try to set it up for administration rights and check your firewall settings. See vista took a page from Linux and made a lot of things protected so virii and user errors would be less damaging. Of course Microsoft half arsed it... like usual.

Really? I think 2142 is brilliant. It's the main reason I can't stand playing Warhawk.

Any game set in the future yet has weapons that function WORSE then we have today always loses points with me. After 100 years, even in the conditions seen in BF2142, I would expect our weapon technology to have evolved and not devolved to the point the MP40 was a more accurate gun!

I just couldn't get over how inaccurate or ineffective the infantry based weaponry was. Thank you for letting me say that.

I'm with jinx, I really disliked the game. But then again I had been playing unhealthy amounts of forgotten hope 2 in the lead up to me getting 2142, so I guess it was always going to come up short.

Yeah, seems to be common, but none of the fixes that people posted worked.

Seriously, post your specs. That'll give major clues to what's wrong.

Might be a PunkBuster error - it flashes up very briefly when you try to connect to a multiplayer game - if so you need to get PBsetup to install punkbuster updates manually or have you got the latest BF 2142 update (1.5)?

PunkBuster will also need administration rights... that frustrated me a lot with games in the past.
