Will battlefield 3 be able to compete with MAG's 256 player I wonder. I'm hoping so, I don't want to have to buy a PS3, at least 128 players I recon. What do you think?

I don't know. I haven't seen or heard anything about BF3 except that it is being made but if one was to accept that "leak" was a real "leak" then I'll take 96 players with full destruction over 256 players without it.

What's MAG?
Massive action game for the PS3.

Not yet released, but will support 256 player battles online.
Ha, is that actually its name?
Sadly.. Yes.
The Creative Division was off getting smoothies at the time they were choosing the name.

I'm not sure I'm going to like MAG. The current Squad-on-Squad gamelay for most FPSs seems more practical because players are more in control of the action. I don't really trust other players to do their job right, so my greatest fear is being flanked because of an incompetent squad, and not being able to do anything about it. But I do like to keep my options open, so I will definitely try MAG.

I'll probably get BF 3 if I have a better PC by the time it comes out, or if BF 3 is multiplatform. But yeah, I BF 3 can definitely compete with MAG becausee BF franchise already has an established fan base.

I'm looking forward to BF3. As long as it doesn't go for a snow or deep desert setting, I'm coo'. Basically like ArmA except less demanding.

Let's wait and see if this is even a good idea. I have no clue how they're going to pull off a 256 player simultaneous deathmatch without it being total chaos.

It should be the other way round. Can MAG compete with BF3?

BF3 is a known quantity to an extent, we've played the prvious BF games and they're all good to excellent.
On the other hand MAG's developer have never done anything with more than 24 players (or is it 32) with variable results.

BF3 will come out, it will be good and people will buy it.

MAG's success depends entirely on whether Zipper can make something 10 times as big as anything they have ever done before work, they might but don't hold your breath.

I really enjoyed BF2 I still sometimes go on and have a few rounds but lets hope they release BF3 without it needing to be patched from release date to solve the hundreds of problems it had, and the issues people had with those patches too.

The only issue I can see with the huge ammounts of players is connection issues and possible slow down if lots of players converged in one area. 256 players sounds amazing though.

MAG doesn't need to be complex. playing 4 BF 2 games AT ONCE, with WAY better graphics is enough to carry the game and make it incredibly enjoyable me thinks (4x64=256).

And I ask whats not amazing about 256 players?

As a PC gamer who cant afford a PS3 I am obviously much more likely to purchase BF3. I know theres zero info on BF3 yet, but I think its an interesting discussion about whether BF3 has been outdone way before it has even come out. Because MAG does really seems years ahead of its time.

Some of you people need to play Planetside.

1. 256 people can work (Planetside did it with 399), though it will probably rely on CSHD (Client Side Hit Detection). CSHD means that so long as you hit someone on your screen, they take damage. In essence this means that you can be killed behind cover seconds after being shot at due to lag.

2. If the maps are ill-designed or too cramped the fights will quickly devolve into stalemates.

3. There will be epic battles, though the most powerful kits/weapons/vehicles will be used and abused to an extreme extent.
