We all know that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have 1st party IP.

Nintendo- Mario, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Zelda, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Punchout, and Pikman.

Microsoft-?

Sony-?

I am not saying that Sony and Microsoft lack 1st party games, I know of God of War and Halo. What I am saying is this. Sony and Microsoft have around the same exact amount of 1st party titles/IP's as Nintendo. With some of these very titles coming in as sequels or spin-offs. Yet we see a lot of complaints toward Nintendo that they need new IP's. Nintendo has as many IP's as Sony and Microsoft and we want more? I personally don't get it, but that could just be me. Not saying its an impossible request, but its not like Nintendo has only "3" 1st party IP's.

P.S. I would be very grateful if others could complete the list of 1st party IP's for Microsoft and Sony. I'm too tired at the moment to think of them all.

I think the reason people complain about nintendo's constant remaking of 1st party IPs is because they've been doing it for so long and they all have so many iterations.

This. Nintendo has been using pretty much the same set of crutches for decades. While we're currently living in the age of sequels and all three companies are shying away from originality, Nintendo has hardly changed a thing about their main lineup since the SNES era.

Nice list, though Dead Space and Crysis 2 not really 1st party games since they are on the 360 as well.....

Well, it shouldn't be a double standard on Nintendo. Sure they use the same IP's, but they are still a good dozen of IP's. It's not like its only the same 3 IP's getting remade again, and again, and again....it's all 12 getting done again and again.

P.S. My last response for now. Gotta hit the hay.

All the new IP have launched recently have been things like Nintendogs and Wii Sports because previous era taught them that N64/Gamecube era customers did not buy enough new IP.

Well, Nintendo has rightfully gotten flack for constantly rehashing games and reusing old IPs. Of course the games are usually good and fun to play so thats okay. The only problem is Nintendo is losing its luster. They are sitting in a tower made of cash yet they dont seem to be doing what they were great at.

The same can be said of Sony and Microsoft i'm just saying this is why you hear these kind of statements from time to time.

I think you guys win the thread.

Though in fairness Microsoft Game Studios only has a handful of in house studios (most recognised would be Lionhead and the guys that made Forza).

Bungie (Halo)and Epic (Gears of War) etc. are third party partners.

Sony Computer Entertainment out right owns several development studios and they're in partnership with a few more.

The thing is though, SCE and MGS are credited as publishers not developers.

Lionhead or Naughty Dog or whoever read as the developers for their respective games even though Naughty Dog is owned by SCE and Lionhead is an inhouse studio for MGS.

Nintendo, however, is the publisher and the developer for their IPs. This, I think, is why they're more noticeable. That and NES - 1985, PSOne - 1994, Xbox - 2001. Been around so much longer.

Well, all the systems need to come out with new IPs. As others have said, Nintendo has just been doing it the longest, and theirs are usually the most similar in each instalment.

Yes Nintendo need new IP's. Why? Because Mario is over 20 YEARS old. So is Zelda and so are many of the franchises you mentioned. Halo is like 9 years old. God of War is like 7 years old (I can't be bothered looking up the actual dates). Which games do you think I'm more tired of?

To your point though 9 years ago Bungie were a first party developer owned by MS, therefore Halo is a first party title. Also I think OP may have confused first party with exclusive.

though to be fair I will say that most IP nintendo owns brings something different to the table. Mario=platformer/skill, Zelda=Action/adventure/exploration, Star Fox=shooter, etc. Its not like every IP that Nintendo owns is the same thing with a different skin.

Though to be honest, I do see that if a new IP does come out, (other than Pikman) people may just say, "Oh, its like a Mario/Donkey Kong game." "It's like MW2/Halo." "It's like DMC/GOW" "Pfft, its just another zelda like game." You know, because Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony may have covered that genre by now.
