There have been quite a few threads lately about the relative merits of consoles and PCs, and pretty quickly the discussion turns to controls. Which has got me thinking. Do any of you PC gamers still use those big analog joysticks; the ones that try to look like they have come out of an airplane? Or tried using one on a modern game?

Edit: (thanks @Danceofmasks for pointing this out) apart from with flight sims?

Well, I'm ashamed to say no (because thus I've contributed to the death of space shooters on the PC), but believe it or not, PC gamers do use gamepads from to time. Here's a PC-gaming site reporting on a new Xbox controller because the readers there regularly plug in controllers to the PC for racing and platforming. The one guy in the comment section who complained about this news being console news was quickly shushed by the other PC gamers.

while i don't play many racing/flying games, i do plug my 360 controller in occasionally, heck i just beat the witcher 2 with it plugged in actually, i tried it out after hearing about others using it and it felt pretty good so i stuck with it.

I have yet to see anyone use those honkin analog sticks anymore...maybe in a collectible set somewhere but otherwise no..

Yep. I have a big flightstick, but I rarely use it nowadays. It's just to slow. I do however use a gamepad with analog sticks.

Hmm. Come to think of it ...

When I get my Razer Hydra, if I find that it allows for precision flight controls, I might shelf my flightstick permanently.
