Greetings sports fans,

Now I really like the NFL, like it's the only sport I actually care enough about to learn people's names (not to say I dislike other sports, I don't, but I only like watching/playing the other sports whereas I like reading about the NFL on top of those things), and since we're not in the actual playing season now (Superbowl marks the end of the season, and it happened in February, frickin' sweet game too) we're onto topics like teams trading/acquiring/releasing players and staff and getting ready for the draft (where NFL teams pick from the newly graduated college talent), so the NFL news buffs have plenty of opportunity to snoop around. One of the main scandals right now is the accusation of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, of sexual assault by a 20-year old woman during his 28th birthday celebration shortly after the Superbowl.

Now this wouldn't normally be enough to warrant the title I've given this thread, except for the fact that Big Ben (his nickname, as he's a pretty stout guy with a strong arm) has been accused of this before, not two years ago in fact. While Ben was acquitted of the earlier offence, investigations are still ongoing for the new claim.

Now it seems to me that, regardless of the police investigation of the matter, the damage has already been done. We have a top-ranked and very visible sports star who doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes and continues to put himself in harm's way. It's reflecting very poorly on his team in particular and his sport in general, and I can't help but feel that this guy, no matter how good he is (and he IS good, 2 Superbowl victories in 4 years, the first being his debut season), he's becoming an embarassment to the NFL and they'll wash their hands of him, or at least the Steelers will.

Of course this is all just speculation on my part, and I'm more of a Ravens/Bengals fan anyway, but any other NFL enthusiasts wanna chip in here?

I thought this thread was about a certain mechanical clock. I'm kinda disappointed. :(

OT: I guess it all depends on how supportive his team are. They could rally round and back him up. On the other hand, he could just as easily be dropped ASAP.

I hate Ben Roethlisberger, can't stand that fatso. Despite my dislike toward the man, it will not effect his career at all, celebrities can get away with seemingly anything with money. Look at Kobe Bryant, he raped someone but with enough money he paid everyone, and I mean everyone off.

In the end, he is too good for people to just let go, just as Kobe was, they will stick by his side as long as he keeps them as a contender.

Shame he wasn't caught two years ago, y'know, Get him out of it sooner rather than later.

Then again this could all be nonsence and just a false acusation, Do we believe that?

As long as he keeps winning, he will get away with things like this. He will have a damaged image, sure, but people won't care if he leads the Steelers to another Superbowl game.

That guy is a grade-A douche anyway, plus, he plays for the Steelers. Who likes the funking Steelers?
lol thats an ignorant statement if ive ever heard one.

plus I'm sure your tired of hearing that the Steelers have the most superbowl trophies and that you hope some other team in the future will surpass them.

Also If Big Ben is found guilty of his crimes then he should definitely be fired for good. It's time the NFL starts cracking down on this shit and stop giving these assholes dozens of chances. you get ONE chance, it should be zero tolerance for felonies.

btw im a steeler fan :)

For a horrible moment i thought something was wrong with a certain clock in London...

On topic- These kind of scandals happen in sport quite frequently, I remember Steven Gerrard getting in trouble for assulting a Liverpool fan. However, it seems that "Big Ben" wont get away with what he did, and thats the kind of problem that major team managers face in any sport- unruly players- it is a risk they have to take.

I thought you meant the clock. I have no idea what sport you are on about or who the athlete in question is.

Couldn't agree more mate, hate him and hate the steelers, my best mate would agree to considering he's a ravens fan if big ben got suspended would increase their chance of winning the AFC North, but i think the ravens will win the north anyway considering they signed Anquan Boldin, so with or without Ben the steelers are screwed!

P.S. Go Phins!!!

Just throwing this out there. But is there any proof that he did ANYTHING wrong ? Or is this just a case of one chick being greedy and taking a shot at Big Ben and hoping it would work, but didnt, but now another woman is thinking that it will work THIS time ?

BTW im a CFL fan.

I thought you were talking about the clock getting blown up..i've been disappointed again.

OT: I highly doubt anything is going to happen because of him being a celebrity and with the money he has he could make it all just go away.

I think most of the Brits will be thinking that.
Well I thought it was about a certain bell in a certain mechanical clock.

Steelers are probably one of the most popular Football teams in America.

I don't think he should be necessarily dropped if he's acquitted, even if his name is damaged a little bit he'll still probably do fine as long as he continues to produce results for the team. If he is guilty though, by all means drop him. I don't hate the Steelers and I've always kinda liked Big Ben, so I hope this works out ok.

By the way, I'm a Vikings/Cards fan :)
