Greetings sports fans,
Now I really like the NFL, like it's the only sport I actually care enough about to learn people's names (not to say I dislike other sports, I don't, but I only like watching/playing the other sports whereas I like reading about the NFL on top of those things), and since we're not in the actual playing season now (Superbowl marks the end of the season, and it happened in February, frickin' sweet game too) we're onto topics like teams trading/acquiring/releasing players and staff and getting ready for the draft (where NFL teams pick from the newly graduated college talent), so the NFL news buffs have plenty of opportunity to snoop around. One of the main scandals right now is the accusation of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, of sexual assault by a 20-year old woman during his 28th birthday celebration shortly after the Superbowl.
Now this wouldn't normally be enough to warrant the title I've given this thread, except for the fact that Big Ben (his nickname, as he's a pretty stout guy with a strong arm) has been accused of this before, not two years ago in fact. While Ben was acquitted of the earlier offence, investigations are still ongoing for the new claim.
Now it seems to me that, regardless of the police investigation of the matter, the damage has already been done. We have a top-ranked and very visible sports star who doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes and continues to put himself in harm's way. It's reflecting very poorly on his team in particular and his sport in general, and I can't help but feel that this guy, no matter how good he is (and he IS good, 2 Superbowl victories in 4 years, the first being his debut season), he's becoming an embarassment to the NFL and they'll wash their hands of him, or at least the Steelers will.
Of course this is all just speculation on my part, and I'm more of a Ravens/Bengals fan anyway, but any other NFL enthusiasts wanna chip in here?
