Big Boobs- why do people complain?

Boobs might be nice to see in a game but not at extreme sizes.
Female characters have to feel female, but nothing other than that.
Nintendo makes female characters breastless and it's not good.
Soul Calibur and lately Mortal Kombat make all female characters have too large boobs.
But there has to be border developers should not cross.
I'm sure Sonya Blade from MK would have problems like a hump if her boobs was so big in reality, because they would pull her spine forward.
It actually makes the game feel more cartoonish than realistic, because the character's movement animations with the proportions of their physical bodies doesn't match.

I'm a heterosexual female, I like dicks. If I ever saw a guy in a video game with a bulge that freakishly disproportionate with his body, I wouldn't think it was hot, I'd wonder what the hell was wrong with him.
Actually I think that such big boobs are distracting, and that's bad because it would break any immersion someone might have in the story or situation of the game.

I gotta ask, am I the only one getting really, REALLY tired of this discussion?

I've been a gamer a long time. My first "console" was a commodore 64 that my dad used to write games on. My first actual console was an Atari 2600. First PC game I ever played was on an old Windows 3.x IBM machine. I've been gaming a very long time, but until the last few years I was never really involved in the gaming community. Then I joined the escapist and subsequently a lot of other communities and really got involved in a lot of it. And I've been listening to this sad agruement for long enough.

Here's what I think. I think that all these women that are complaining about the breast size in games aren't offended. They're jealous. They're jealous that their breasts aren't as big. They're jealous that their boyfriend wants to play games rather than spend time with them. They're jealous that they have something to compete with in society. Well, here's a news flash: We ALL compete in society, be it in breast size, penis size, status, income, possessions, what have you. Jealousy is the only reason I can see that this arguement keeps getting dredged up and I mean dredged up literally out of the bottom of the septic tank because every time it comes up it is the same shit all over again. "Women are being objectified!" "Women are being opressed!" Women enjoy the most freedom in the US and most other 1st and 2nd world countries than they ever have in the history of this PLANET, and that's a long damn history to compare it to. So since we can throw out the archaic, 1960s, bra-burning feminist-esque tirade against video games, the ONLY thing I can come back to is the fact that women are just plain jealous over a bunch of pixels.

Time to grow up, bitches.

And I mean that seriously. Games are not going to change for you, not the way you want them to. It's time to grow up and face facts. Men like breasts. They like big breasts, small breasts, your breasts, their breasts, unless they're gay they like ALL breasts. I think Jeff Foxworthy said it best, "It could be some old biker chick, you know they're gonna hang down to here. She says 'You wanna see mah titties?' 'Yeah I do.'" This whole inferiority complex that you're using as a crutch to launch some kind of crusade against the persecution against women in video games is a fasade. There are going to be big breasts in video games, just like there are going to be big breasts in the real world. So if you're going to decry video games for making women look bad, you might also want to go after all the women in the real world too. Afterall, those women that get breast implants [http://www.esteemstudio.com.au/t7breastaug.php] are just doing it to get the attention of men! And those women that were born with naturally huge breasts, well they're just a genetic abnormality and should be ignored!

Bottom line is this: it's time to grow up or shut up. If women want to spend the rest of their lives complaining about the digital women in video games, I'm tired of listening. I'm tired of listening to the same tired arguements over and over by people with no backbone and tissue thin skin that choose to wear their feelings right out there on their sleeves with a sign that says "Hurt Here". The world is not going to change just because you don't like a part of it. If you're jealous because someone else has bigger breasts than you, you have two options. Either start stuffing your shirt, or if you got money start stuffing your breasts, OR you can do the sensible thing, be an adult and move on to something that ACTUALLY matters. I'm sure you can find something once you stop acting like a petty, spoiled child crying because you weren't born with the best toys.

I saw a tv show once with a women that had MMM size breasts. That is not a typo. Her breasts seriously were the size of beach balls. How come I haven't seen THAT in a video game?
too much ranting..,

Here's what I think. I think that all these women that are complaining about the breast size in games aren't offended. They're jealous. They're jealous that their breasts aren't as big. They're jealous that their boyfriend wants to play games rather than spend time with them. They're jealous that they have something to compete with in society.
Most of women who undergo breast implant surgery were not merely to impress their boyfriends or partners. They do it for themselves and not to conform with the unfounded beliefs that women existed to please men nor the society.

Hmmm guess im a bit more laid back on this subject than most, I guess people complain because either they dont like it or they think they should say they dont like it thats all it comes down to really something is not they way they want it to be (or the way they think it wants to be) and as such they feel they should speak up and try and justify their decision some of which are more rational than others.

Personally I have no problem with huge breasts in games or small breasts or anything in between nor do I care about guys who seem to have taken so much steroids they would have trouble even moving about in a normal fashion or raising their arms above their heads. I also dont care if there is a some masculine woman or feminine man or so androgynous that you cant tell which they are without being told. In the end all characters are is a creation someone decided on they can be as ridiculous/realistic as they like thats what makes them so awesome. There is no problem here apart from the problems people make of it.

I would also say that in games that employ it (most games) character development is king and will make or break even the best/worse designed character (which like everything is pointlessly subjective anyway).

Breast Physics
I have never seen boobs move like that in real life ever. They just feel so detached from the character they're on when they move that they seem like a separate character. It's just too much to be sexy anymore, now it's become an extremely over-the-top fantasy of someone I'd rather not associate with.

There are more immersion-breaking elements to breast physics that just that as well.

How about two handfuls?

Anyways I agree with OP on this, I feel the "girls are portrayed sexist" is sort of unfair, as most character design is designed from a wish to create "perfection". Most male superheroes look the way they look because they are the perfection of a human, a "greek god" so to say. And most female characters are the perfection of a woman, based on the creators views of perfect.

Sure most real women don't look like that. Most real women might not want to look like that, but we men don't look like most male heroes either.

Even if you start to look at costume design you see exaggerations in both genders, although some girls do get way to skimpy outfits in games... and some girls wear way to skimpy outfits in real life.

That said I agree with Movie Bob, that when you use the big boobs in your game as advertising you have gone to far.

2. Complaint: It isn't normal for women to have such big boobs. It is genetically abnormal!

Response: All above average traits, including above average intelligence, are genetically abnormal. If one were to accept that being attracted to abnormal traits is wrong, then being attracted to women who are more intelligent than average would be wrong.
But being smarter is a benefit. Having large breasts does nothing more than hold women back.

In fact, apart from giving back constraints and impeding women's athletic abilities, larger breasts may, in fact, be an evolutionary flaw. The main argument for breasts is that it would help prevent suffocation in infants. However, it seems studies show that the opposite is true, flatter chests are at least of a risk for infant suffocation than large ones. So again, no benefit.

While being smart is clearly a good thing. And women aren't pressured to be smart like they are pressured to have large boobs.

but the average man doesn't look like the Incredible Hulk, Superman, Thor, Ryu/Ken, Marcus Fenix, or many other male videogame characters.
That's not done to portray attractiveness, that's done to portray physical superiority.

Large boobs are done to make women look like a sex object. Large muscles are done to make men look capable. This is a tired old argument that is ridiculous, should be obvious to anyone, and has been destroyed thousands of times.

How people can look over the obvious differences here, just in the name of trying to glaze over obvious problems, is dumbfounding. Do you really think anyone who has actually thought about this issue at all actually buys the crap that drawing women with large boobs and drawing men with huge muscles are even remotely similar?

Just the slightest bit of thought should make it strikingly obvious that this is ridiculous.

4. Complaint: I don't have a problem with Big Boobs, but I do have a problem with the sheer percentage of them!

Response: Adult Female characters that have larger than average boobs are actually a fairly small minority. Here is an example: In Extra Credits, they keep using pictures of Ivy. Ivy is part of a large roster of female characters. Most of these characters have small or average breasts.

So wait, this is supposed to be a rebuttal to the claim that most women in games are given too large of breasts? Absolutely not, you have posted a single fighting game. And to be honest, this single example is not very good.

How about Final Fantasy VII, how about the entire Dead or Alive cast, how about Tomb Raider, how about just about every single video game with women you can imagine?

RelexCryo said:
Response: If there is a lack of fanservice to women, that is a serious problem. It doesn't mean that fanservice for men is morally wrong
That's true. But it's not so hot when they make the majority of women like this, and not the men.

Why do we have to make everyone "pretty" for a certain demographic?

Can't we just make most characters independent of this? Is the solution to the sexualization of women's bodies really to just make almost everyone in the entire media industry look like eye candy for some group? And good luck convincing most guys this okay. In my experience, all those guys who say statements like this and go "ewww, that's gay" when there's a half naked guy on screen. Apparently, it's okay to fanservice guys as much as their hearts desire, but fanservicing anyone else is "gay" and needs to be killed with fire.

And if you were to sexualize men as much as women are sexualized, again, almost every man in the media would be made a sex object. Are you really comfortable with such a silly thing?

Also, if catering to men's tastes is good, what about all the guys who prefer smaller breasts, even completely flat sometimes? Do their tastes not matter?

Oh, and who said nobody could or doesn't complain about huge muscles? I'm known to get on people's nerves about the fact I don't like them ALL the time. Somehow it seems to offend a lot of men when I say I don't particularly enjoy their muscular main character.

I complain because I find it creepy and distracting. I'd rather the female characters just be compelling characters rather than fanservice.

Mainly I just dislike it when the game sells itself on having tits. Just feels like the developers are assuming that because they slap tits on something I'll buy it.

Because disproportionately big breasts get in the way when I'm trying to f**kin shoot. Although the female form in general may prove an asset in CQC. Crushing opponents to necks with thick thighs or breasts, Hell yes.

If sex appeal comes into it, I like my girls full-figured all over. Top-heavy does nothing for me.

What the Hell does this have to do with videogames, anyway?

Wtf. Someone bumped this from March 2011? *facepalm*

I do agree that people tend to overreact to this kinds of stuff. Sexism against women in games exist, but it's not as bad as they make it out to be. To be fair though, there is a line where big breasts stop being sexy and start being disturbing.

Nothing in evolution is flawed. But that doesn't mean something is healthy for the survival of the individual.
Breasts don't help with "survival of the fittest" as it impairs a woman's movement, and make her less agile. But on the other hand they have a very big part to play in "survival of the sexes".

Breasts are like wide hips a "sign of fertility" and is there fore a trait that is attractive to males. No, it is not something men go around thinking about, all we are left with is "bewbs are awesome"

But the issue here is that attractive traits and useful traits doesn't always go hand in hand. I do not remember the name of the moose who grew bigger and bigger antlers every generation, because it was the males with the biggest antlers that got to mate. But at one point the antlers got so big that they died out due to not being able to move.

So yeah breasts are attractive to men, and men therefore design attractive characters when they make a game.

I find that in a more "serious" game like say DragonAge, the size of a characters chest which is clearly out of proportion is distracting and (for me) breaks the immersion of the game for me. If I walk into a brothel..then yeah.. rock out with a couple of large sets... if I am talking to the guards, one of them shouldn't be sporting a pair of Iron missles behind her breastplate... it (Again imo) doesnt make sense and makes me think about why "Missle Barrage" betty chesterson is here, instead of the story which is unfolding before me.

On actual big boobs, I have no problem, and think its entertaining in games where they are there, for the sake of being there (Soul Calibur, Tekken, DOA etc)

Because I'm not a fan of massive great dirty pillows in general, especially when attached to characters whose generally-physics-defying antics should leave them with crippling back pain or black eyes every time they step out the front door.

Wow, nine pages and I feel I've answered that one pretty decisively. Rest of the thread, are you even trying?

It's not just giant boobs, it's giant boobs on a body with a 22 inch waist & stick arms whose default pose is stripper/whore-looking-for-a-tip.

"Men are naturally attracted to boobs, therefore make big boobs." Ah, us guys and our logic.

Honestly, I'm not all that attracted to digital big boobs because all it really comes down to is pandering. When we see a woman in our daily life with naturally large breasts, its certainly attracting. Now, imagine a dude inspired by such a sight draws an anime picture of a woman with exaggerating breasts. Does it have the same allure? Not really, its actually more on the creepy side.

It comes down to men enjoying the "ideal/idea" of women over women as they actually exist. We exaggerate or idealize what specific traits we find specifically attractive. It feels less like we're dealing a character who happens to a female and more what men feel a female should be.

So to me, a woman with natural flaws is inherently attractive because they are less of an ideal and more "real" in a sense.

The reason most people seem to be giving is that they don't personally like it. You need to just not buy the games if you are offended yet as the dragon age examples seem to highlight the people complaining didn't play the full game. Women are a minority in gaming still unless their are more female gamers developers won't bother changing these designs. I don't have a problem with it and don't think it should be changed for a minority. Vote with your money and buy or don't buy them case closed.
