Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising

Codemasters, why don't you just stick with racing games, you're good with those...

To me dissappointment is realative to how excited I am, Spore wins but I wasn't really all that excited about it, I saw it in the store said to myself "it's finally out cool" and didn't care that it wasn't that great.

On the other hand I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, I had been waiting years for 13,I went to the midnight release, I bought the collectors edition guide, I took time off of work. Then in the end I had to force myself to beat it and haven't picked it up since.

New Vegas is in the same category due to bugs, but I have hope that they will fix it via patches.

Cliff notes:

Biggest dissapointment to the gaming community. Spore
Biggest dissapointment to me. Final Fantasy 13

Subpar games from Blizzard? Wut?
Starcraft 2, and the violation of the gaming hobby you know as world of warcraft.

They also made that crappy little lost vikings game. But it wasn't from this decade so I can't count it.

Have a few of them actually.

Mass Effect 1 - Story was all right but the game felt tedious and boring (liked the second one much better....probably playing that one on the PC helped a bunch)

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Yay a sequel to final fantasy tactics (2 hours of cut scenes later) JUDGES WTF!!!

Final Fantasy War Of The Lions - Yay Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP with multiplayer, extra missions and a retranslated script (which I seem to be the only one who likes it)...except the game is a poorly done port that stutters and has horrid sound.

The halo series - More in retrospect for me, as I played the second one first, but it none of the games after the first are really any good, the second one was a teasing whore, the entire add campaign was built around the premise that it would be on earth and 3/4ths of the game is in space and half the time your playing some nameless alien you don't even know (I demand to play as some nameless marine in a spacesuit, at least he had better one liners), and three was just meh, not as bad as 2 but not great.

The Dark Knight Strikes Again - Actually this shouldn't be a surprise considering, but it's still a disappointment.

The Watchmen Movie - I just didn't like it.

Glen Beck - Your supposed to be the modern version of McCarthy not some christian heal the world/save our country weirdo thats half as hilarious.

Samurai X: Reflection - Disappointment doesn't begin to describe my thoughts on this one....but it's the closest thing to it.

Resident Evil 5 - Yahtzee said it best on this one "the game I loved is in here but the creative spark has run out", albeit it was still fun to play (for me anyways).

Slipknot - A band with 8 members (9 until the passing of their bassist, I believe) sounds like the have 4...oh and contrary to popular belief, aren't very good live (least when I saw them)

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - I liked the first one (no really), it was a big stupid action movie that was enjoyable, this one is a big stupid action movie that was very un-enjoyable.

High School - Quite overrated thus far

No More Heroes - Enh, it was good, it just wasn't the amazing mindblowing game everyone was making it out to be

Half Life 2 and all it's Parts.

I played the original and loved it. Even played Blue Shift and Opposing Force and loved them. So I was really excited about finally getting a 360 and The Orange Box. Then I actually played Half Life 2, and all I got was a bunch of people fanboying over Gordon Freeman with the occasional break to shoot something. Yeah, Alyx is cool, but goddamn if I don't hate that game.

Honorable mention goes to Psychonauts.

Non-gaming: TWO TERMS of George W. Bush.

Gaming: Nickel-and-diming gamers to death with pointless DLC. Bethesda got the ball rolling with Oblivion's horse armor, and it all went downhill from there. I don't mind DLC as long as it provides lots of content for a decent price (Borderlands is a good example of this), but too often it's overpriced (Call of Duty/Halo map packs) or content that should have been included in the first place.

Dante's Inferno.
I read about the game in a friends game magazine and thought it look really, really awesome. This was over a year before it was released and I waited an extra year or so before getting it since I never buy games at full price.
Needless to say the game was pretty awful, short and a bad rip off with horrible voice acting(Dante).

Final Fantasy XIII
I didn't have much hope for this game considering X-2 and XII, but I still got it at the release date from a website that sold it pretty cheaply. It only took me a few minutes of play time to realise that the game was rather bad and it just got worse.
It entertained me for a few days but I was more frustrated and irritated at the game than enjoying it.

I'll give the honorary mention to spore, but the real one goes to Fable 1.

I still remember reading about "Project Ego" (fables codename that Molyneux talked about) in an old Xbox magazine I picked up on a whim one day, it was just such an amazing world he talked about. I got an Xbox just to play that and Panzer Dragoon Orta. When it came out and it was just another frackin' rpg... God, I was disgusted. The series still isn't 5% of what he talked up the original to be.

edit: Xbox Nation! that was the name of the magazine.
I think your mistake on both was listening to the bullshit, Peter's really good at hooking people in on that one too as I understand it.

I waited 3 or so years for Spore and when I finally got to play it... it was 5 mini games, the only of which may have exceeded the game it was based on being the cell stage. Don't get me wrong, I think that the editor is fantastic, but it didn't mean much for the gameplay and after such anticipation it was just an excruciating disappointment to play through. (Actually it was nice for about 10 minutes during each minigame due to novelty, excluding cell-stage pacman which is still quite enjoyable on occasion)

Hellgate: London - How the FUCK is this not top of the list?!

Spore - Gotta admit, this was a big letdown.

Fable 3 - Killed it. Absolutely killed it. Guaranteed I will NEVER be buying another lionhead game.

Amy Henning leaving Eidos, thus destroying any hope of a Legacy of Kain 6.

Valve saying it had three big announcements coming this year, and not ONE of them being Half Life 3. (No, I don't mean Episode 3. Don't quote me) I have officially given up hope for this series.
Have all the suprises been told? I thought that Dota 2 was the only one yet... Wich are the other ones??
Yeah, that's the other thing! I have no idea what the other two are. If they're going to make any more "big announcements" they're kinda running out of time here.
Valve said it would announce 3 big things in the next year. Not this one.

I'd have to say Star Trek Online was my biggest disappointment this decade. Never have I seen such mediocrity from people who claimed to love something so much.

Gothic 3 - If you live outside of Germany, chances are you aren't too familiar with the early games of the Gothic series, just the buggy Oblivion wannabe that was the 3rd installment. Well in Germany Gothic 1 and 2 are held in a similar regard that we hold the Baldur's Gate series. It is a highly acclaimed open world RPG that is kept in a very confined space, making the experience incredibly deep. It accomplishing with clever scripting what Oblivion utterly failed to do with AI in making a living and believable world that was still intriguing. The games had built up to a crescendo in Gothic 2, and Gothic 3 promised to provide an epic finale to a distant conflict that had been alluded to from the very beginning of the first. Instead, we got a shallow, buggy mess. For shame.

Final Fantasy XIII - I was definitely hyped for Final Fantasy XII, and while scouring for a last bit of information during the final E3 before that game's release, I noticed they had an announcement trailer for XIII. "WTF, XII isn't even out!" I said. I watched the trailer, and my mind was blown out of my skull and all over the walls. The game they were advertising looked like the coolest thing ever made. I waited in anticipation, greedily sipping down information whenever it rarely showed its face. I finally started playing the game recently and... well it's just okay. Objectively, I can't say that it's horrible, but based on all that hype it sure does feel like it. X was good, but started a trend toward some very silly storytelling ideas, and XIII seems to be its fully waxed appearance. From now on, I'll be wary before playing another Kitase Final Fantasy.

The Old Republic Announcement - Bioware has good writers, but the writers at the former Black Isle team Obsidian make Bioware's talent look like Twilard fan fiction writers. This was abundantly clear not only in the difference between Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate, but moreso in the difference between Kotor and Kotor 2. Same franchise, but one team made Star Wars in its purest form, flaws and all. The other team created a dark experience so compelling that it gave me the closest feelings I had when watching the Empire Strikes Back for the first time. Almost eerie. The best thing about the game though was that they left you in suspense for a looming threat even more deadly than the Sith Lords you spent the entire game fighting. However, after the long wait we got.... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Despite financial success, LucasArts was apparently displeased with the mixed reactions of the fans, so they didn't let Obsidian use the license again. However, after what felt like an eternity of waiting, we were told that we were about to get big news for the universe of the Old Republic. I was stoked to say the least, as I was certain that Obsidian was finally getting the license back to make a final Kotor installment on the 360. Instead... they announced an MMO.

Many other disappointments this year, most coming from the pretty drastic changes in gaming and the stories that are being told currently, but there have also been a good deal of surprises and triumphs. In my opinion, those outnumber the disappointments and failures this year, making it a great decade overall.

mmm this is a bit tough, i have decently low expectations on some things, as i know what i like and dont like

however, for discussions sake:

-Socom confrontation, i played the first 3 like it was no ones business, i dont think as a kid i put more time into any game/series as much as those, and when i finally got a ps3 this past year i had heard of the game on the ps3 and i was so bloody damn excited to play it again i swear i popped a boner putting in the game into the ps3 for the first time.

-poppped it in, only to find out there is no single player.
*fine.whatever, i played multiplayer mostly anyways*
-joins match, realizes how shitty the game movement and controls had become
*fuck.well maybe it gets better, i just got to get used to it*
-plays game for literally 16 hours straight.
*fuck this game. this is fucking garbage, the originals are fucking amazing! wtf!*

yeah i immediately took the game back and sold it, i was so pissed off on how poorly implemented it was. socom 4 is coming out this next year, and this one is by zipper, it looks not too shabby...but literally, if they just redid the graphics and put the old games on the ps3, i'd spend easily 150-200 dollars in a heartbeat to have those games. i miss them so freaking much.

besides that i haven't been disappointed too much..there was mw2 but gonna avoid that rage and complete bullshit of a sequel.
The new Socom footage is not too promising. But this was gold.

OMGGGG I spent months on that level trying to do it flawlessly!!I memorized ALL the sentries. I remember that one sentry in particular would appear randomly or not appear at all, (pissed me off to no end) that was the best level out of all the SOCOMs I've played.
