Inb4 Dragon age 2 being terrible even though it's 7/10.

Oh wait, the idiots are already here.
Keyword here is disappointment, people can be disappointed with a game regardless of its "rating". Let's not talk out our butt holes because people don't happen to like a game that they have every right to feel was not as good as it should have been.

As for the OT: Brink.
So it's ok people are that disappointed (keeping in mind, we're comparing this 'disappointment' to Duke Nukem and other baddies of 2011) by a 7/10? That's just mindless hate.
Dude, review scores don't mean shit. Never once have I played a game that I really liked, then found out it was a 5/10 and thought "Oh, well I guess I hate it after all". Same goes in reverse.

Definitely Brink.

I was looking forward to it so much, and now I almost forgot it even existed...
It hurt, man. I was so goddamn hyped. Now I can't get excited about games, for fear of...

Oh godammit Skyrim.

Shadows of the Damned. It's by no means a BAD game, but I expected much more from the all-star development team. The guy who made Resident Evil 4 and Devil May Cry 3 made this game too freaking easy, Akira Yamaoka hammering a banjo doesn't quite fit with the tone of the game, and, as Yahtzee said, this is as close to the ground as Suda 51 ever was. It had such potential.

Duke Nukem: Forever is the only game I was really disappointed with this year, but everything else was at the very least somewhat entertaining.

I think that this question would be better posed towards the end of 2011, since fall is when most games are coming out.

A tough one as I've not bought many fresh new games this year. All I can think of right now is Dawn of War II: Retribution- but only the singleplayer. Sadly this is what I preffered in Dawn of War II, being rubbish at/ not so into multiplayer. The story even held up in Chaos Rising after the somewhat forced moral-choice thing. However Retribution promised to let us play as all six races, while neglecting to mention it was the same campaign. That they want you to play for every single race, do the same missions exactly. No replay value for it at all :/

None so far, because the only game I got that has been released this year is Portal 2, and that in no way was a disappointment. Although, I predict MW3 will be it, because it will probably follow the same pattern of every other COD game:

Good for 2 months
People learn about broken, overpowered weapons
People learn about glitches and exploits
IW won't patch it, as usual
Game is broken beyond repair

Don't get me wrong, I'm still getting it because I like what I've seen in footage and trailers.

So much more could have been done with that game...

so much...
Can you elaborate? I loved it to bits.

OT: Call of Jaurez. The engine was amazing in that it was amazing how terrible a modern one could be....
The was beautiful and the game play was pretty solid, I like combat. But this is a fucking Alice in wonderland game I mean really? All they did was have us jump around I think it was 6/7 different environments and due to how thinly spread the levels where it felt tedious and boring, the game began to feel like it was just one poorly scripted trek from one combat sequence to an other.

There could have been ALOT more boss fights, which in this kind of game I feel like there NEED to be to summarise a chapter. I mean, two examples are: The Hair and the door mouse at the end of the "hatter industries" level and the massive "invincible" card guard, and these are but examples. Then there was the way they dealt with these possible boss fights, the first one I mentioned was done by the hatter dropping a massive tea pot on them and then the whole place literally blowing up with them and with the massive card guard all Alice did was eat some cake and squish it underfoot.

The Carpenter and the Walrus, can't remember how the game got rid of them, I think they just fled. As well as Younger Alice/ The Queen of hearts (lol, vore and tentacles)

I must confess here, I did enjoy the game it's just it also felt really REALLY disappointing at the same time.

I did enjoy what came after that though, when you run around as massive Alice stomping on everything.

I've read both books and seen every single movie based off the books including Syfys Alice and I my self and my girl friend are doing some wonderland writing of our own (won't go into that right now). But as a massive fan of it all I can say they REALLY lacked story, I just found it really poor I mean, it's wonderland for god sake, a lot of the characters are fantastic. Story was one of the main things I was looking forward to and it was just meh and by meh I mean I found it really boring.

Then the puzzle segments, felt more like it was used to waste our time so they didn't have to make more content. Made the game "feel" longer then it actually being longer.

And then there was the lack in variation of enemy's, I mean really. DOLL FACES EVERYWHERE? I mean, they eventually just drop the doll faces and just give us FUCKING DOLLS.

And then there was the last boss fight.

I did it first time, although, I did like what happeneda after the end when she took the key of the guy and agreed that no one would listen to her due to her being "Mad" and just pushed him under a train. :3

But yeah I gotta go. That's about all I can so on the matter.

Halo is still going and Blizzard haven't become bankrupt and are still undoubtably planning new ways to fuck with Azeroth. Woe is me with my hatred of all things that should've been left to die 2 installments ago...

Oh yeah the whole hatter boss thing. I was confused too. It didn't seem to thin until the doll level. Then I just wanted to get it over with but the twist made it worth it to play through it.
I really loved the Caterpillar level though.
And you're right, I totally forgot about the walrus and the Carpenter. I didn't really like the ocean level, it seemed to slow down the game. But I think I was really wowed by the atmosphere, the environment, and of course, the Psychonauts easter egg.

From Dust. This was my most anticipated title this year. I mean, Eric Chahi makes a God Game. From the announcement I wanted this game so bad. I read the reviews for XBox and think, "Wow, once they get solid mouse controls, this looks like a great game." A few months later, I learn that the mouse just simulates a stick and Ubi lied about the DRM. It broke my heart a little.

L.A. Noire also disappointed me. It was supposed to be the second coming of the adventure game, but got boring and repetitive by the second desk. Also, I couldn't get the hang of interrogation. I know someone is lying about what they say, and show evidence about it, but the game wanted me to pick up a different lie and present evidence. The evidence you were supposed to use often didn't prove anything either. It seemed to come down to a crapshoot on whether the Devs and I were on the same page.

L.A. Noire for me. I was expecting some actual challenge from the game, but whenever you thought you had to buckle down and actually do some detective work, the game held your hand and walked you through it (or let you skip it altogether). My biggest frustration was tracking down all the clues based on landmarks, and I didn't get it right on the first try, then my partner flat out tells me where it is. That section was really the only part of the game that actually required you to think, and if you don't get it right the first time, the game tells you the answer. Not only that but I thought there was far too much action in the game, I'm sorry but even in the 1940's if a cop's body count reached the 3rd digit he'd have an IID investigation on his ass and he'd be sidelined while he waits for a grand jury decision. I still enjoyed the game (for the most part) but it definitely wasn't the game I had expected.

The Force Unleashed 2? That wasn't even worth 5 bucks.

Wait.

No.

I just remembered the most vile gaming abomination that has ever seen the light of day.
Finally EA has committed it's ultimate sin.

L.A. Noire

For as bad as Dragon Age 2 was atleast it had, like... bewbs 'n stuff.

L.A. Noire's face reading gameplay just didn't work, and the game became painfully boring near the end of homicide. I couldn't even finish it.

I'm gonna say Crysis 2. Was close to getting it, and one of my friends let me borrow it, saying it was pretty awesome (Xbox 360). I found it repetitive, the graphics weren't all that impressive, the frame rate was shocking, and it just didn't appeal to me. The multiplayer wasn't all that great, and the stealth was completely pointless!

Brink was a good game for about 2 weeks but then just got boring when you could find no-one online.

LA Noire was good but it did drag. A HELL of a lot. The Vice cases were boring, as was Arson.
