First you reform my favourate band with 2 members, you make a crap album (thats forgivable as it is subjective) you become a money hungry whore and sell the music to any advert that pays and now you charge people to be "members" on your retarded site?

Screw you *****, Siamese Dream still sits in my player but you can burn in hell money whore.

I think his fans have huge egos and a false sense of entitlement over him, his properties, and his artistic endeavors.

Lets try and salvage some discussion then.....

Does it matter if a band 'sells out'?

So is it all about the music for you and irrelevant if they are the latest capitalist whores? Or is it about the authentic image, rather having your favourite band rot in obscurity than make it big as a shil?

You are actually surprised that a past-his-prime pop musician is clinging to what little popularity he may have and attempting to wring as much beer money out of it?

Welcome to the real world, lad. It's a scary place, but you'll find it easier to bear once you stop expecting things to be good.

the second you accept a penny for a gig, or allow a publisher puts it's logo on your book, or anything else...you've sold out already...what happens after that is a mute point.

Well it's kind of like there job to make music so as long as they continue to make music people enjoy I don't really care, although this Billy Corgan does come across as an asshole but I never really got into Smashing Pumpkins anyway.

Who and what are you talking about.
There's so much to discuss in this informative and witty thread, yet you decide not to contribute. You clearly haven't read it, or the deep thought provoking facts would've forced you to submit to intellectual conversation!

If a band establishes various ethical practices and then abandons them for money... then yes they are selling out. However, it is unfair to compare all artists against the standards set forth by DIY punk, or socialistic ideals because *surprise* not everybody believes in those things.

Even if a band sells out, that doesn't mean that their music is objectively bad or flawed and believing that it is says more about the fan's lack of love towards the medium of sound in general.
