I absolutely love The Binding of Isaac. It's probably my favorite game of the past 5 years, or longer. It's definitely my most played.

I know the game has a pretty devoted fandom, but I don't really see much of it here around the Escapist.

In case you don't know, the game is getting a full non-flash remake--subtitled Rebirth--with something like twice the content of the original game and expansion. It's set to drop later this year, and Edmund McMillen posts updates and new stuff every Monday.

It's looking great so far, check out this music.

So are there any other Isaac fans out there? Are you as hype as I am??

Im actually very excited to grab this one. Im sincerely hoping that it comes out around the halloween sale on steam so I can nab it for a reasonable price. To be fully honest, Ive been waiting for this to drop since last year and I almost started giving up hope hehe, I really hope that its going to come out soon.

By all means, Ill wait as long as I have to, if it gets postponed 10 times so they can give it a 100% finish, Ill gladly sit through that time.

Huh now I'm confused. Didn't he release pictures before that looked completely different from BoI because he didn't like the graphics style anymore or something and wanted to change it drastically for the remake? I remember something like that and because of that thought that this remake is pretty uninteresting. Seeing the videos on his blog now makes me think that this looks pretty great.

Besides that I'm quite a huge fan of BoI. I spent countless hours in it although I'm still missing the platinum god trophy..oh well...some day!

I doubt it's going to be postponed at this point, thankfully. My understanding is that the game is basically finished, but Edmund can't actually set the release date. It has to come down from Sony or something.

I know that way back when the remake was announced they didn't have a set art style, and released some samples of potential looks for the game. That could be what you're thinking of.

And I finally got Platinum God a few months ago |D it was a good feeling.

I still play a run of BoI almost every day. Rebirth should be excellent, particularly on my Vita. Definitely excited.

He is changing things to be more retro pixel looking. You can't really tell with most of the blog pictures because they are so small.

I am a rather big fan of BoI. I consider it the best rougelike game ever. The random elements are all done really well. Every play through is different.

Yeah that might be the explanation. I can't even find the article were I read that nor the pictures that made me think "Wow...not my visual style at all".
Congratulation for the platinum god :D I'm still missing a Judas and Samson chest run but I hate those characters soo much. Never got lucky with any of them.

Binding of Isaac was probably the single best $1 I've ever spent. I have well over 100 hours played in it and I've beaten it multiple times with each character. Fun as hell game. Sadly, it totally distracted me at the worst possible times in my college career.

I liked The Binding of Issac so much, that I basically went and made a clone of it, in a sense- let's just say it's inspired by both Spore and The Binding. I used flash, and I totally understand why they are jumping ship- I love Actionscript but there is only so far it can take a great game idea nowadays.

It's on Steam Greenlight now, with a placeholder title of "Monster", but it's not finished, and needs about another three months of attention.

But don't tell Jim Sterling- I have a very frail ego, and couldn't handle being on his YouTube channel for shoddy indie games!

I'm a huge Binding of Isaac fan. 164 hours logged and just 3 achievements shy of 100% completion (Dark Boy, Mamas Boy, and Platinum God!, since the game has never spawned a Daddy's Love for me). I hadn't been following Rebirth since something about the art style didn't sit right with me, but the new stuff looks really good, will probably end up picking it up.

Just check my avatar. As I mentioned in another thread I've got about 300 hours and would have more if the game would work on my laptop. I got Golden God before Wrath of the Lamb came out and have had Platinum God for ages. Very much looking forward to rebirth. I'll probably get it on both PC and Vita.

Just an awesome, very replayable game.

I had no idea they were intending to do a remake, so this is exciting news for me!

I love The Binding of Isaac. I've poured quite a few hours into that game - it's just so charming! The difficulty also reminds me quite strongly of the videogames I played when I was younger. They were so difficult I actually wonder how I managed to complete them back then. 0_o

Now to hope for a Steam release.

Well the original teaser for Rebirth is one of the most terrifying things I have ever seen and I still play the original even with that memory, I would say I am a fan.

Is this the version which consoles have been told they're getting for ages, complete with couch co-op?

If so, yay.

I'll be hype when a game exists, this thing has been announced about 5 billion times so far and I really can't consider it more then anyone else's pipe dream until an actual product exists.
But yes I do like BoI even though I never finished it legit, that RNG just fucks you over even on the best runs, I would much rather have a system of logic behind item spawns rather then random (but I get that isn't the design devs wanted).

Loved The Binding Of Isaac, not a fan of Wrath Of The Lamb though.

I really like the randomness and simplicity of it all, and it definitely has great music. I've played up to 70 hours and I can breeze through it pretty easily now. However I only play it once in awhile since I've seen everything now and I don't care for achievements and unlocking the rest.

ehhh sort of. It has co-op features but they're way more limited than like, having two Isaacs onscreen. I forget all of the details, but it has something to do with player 2 operating more like a familiar, and I think there's something about health sharing.

However it does generate a code for each run, so you and a friend can play through the same rooms and items if you want (nothing can be unlocked while doing this).

I've been a bit passive about my hype for it (easier to wait for it that way).

But yeah, I will be getting it as soon as it's released.
