Fuck it. I just bought it and I have a widescreen TV.
re-read the article good sir

I mean...euh yeah
My computer is hooked up to my TV.
oh ok sorry

My bad

I just never heard of anyone actually playing all games like that
I do too :D
I have a BC PS3 and a PC with every functional emulator imaginable on it. As a result, I can play almost anything that's not a Wii exclusive (and the few X360 exclusives). I think there's a functional Wii emulator too, but that's just pirating.

Poor 2K, it's understandable, widescreen monitors are just soooooooo new that they didn't have the time. Probably they didn't even have one to test.

So, bad widescreen support, no pad, no dedis (why the multi anyway?), SecuROM, Games for Windows Shit.. what's next?. Why are publishers nowadays doing all they can to keep us from buying their games?.

For reference...

Not too bad...but the drill gauge being cut off is somewhat annoying...

Anyway, thats not the point. Point is the people who made the game just didn't care enough to do anything about it at the time of development... (and they didn't bother to give a headsup to those customers who had widescreen pc monitors either)

Shame on you 2k Marin....

Meh, the entire PC version seems rushed. Poor key bindings, problems with directx10, the odd sound issue. 2K really should have given it more time. Oh well.

Actually I think that was a good decision on how to adjust for widescreen, it keeps the area of the screen that actually matters to gameplay larger giving you a more detailed view. The only thing you gain from a "fix" is being able to see slightly more above and below you (useless angles 90% of the time) and the actually relevant front and center area being smaller.

I'm playing the PC version in 16:9 widescreen and consider this a complete non-issue. However it was silly I have to enter a serial number at all considering I bought the game on Steam, but for some strange reason they deemed it necessary I had to do it twice: once before the game launched and once into GFWL at the title screen.

Oh and while we're on stupid complaints, how about the fact that both Steam and the game introduce a extra dialog/menu for choosing singleplayer/multiplayer so I have to verify twice that I want to play single player before even getting to the title menu (oh noes! 3 more mouse clicks!).

Wow, how the fuck could they fuck that up again? How do you miss that a second time and say "whoops we forgot to include widescreen support again!" Wouldn't some one be like "Hey guys did we fix that widescreen problem that the guys at Irrational Games patched back in the first one?"

I am glad I didn't purchase this, not just because of the laziness of having the same horrible engine (Unreal 2.5), SecuROM, Game for Windows just added up for me not wanting this. Not to mention how action much the gameplay changed, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Shame to because I played the original... speaking of witch, why the fuck did they make a sequel?

What are these DX10 issues? I haven't seen any yet.

I thought the keybindinga were alright, except M for map, B for hack, and for L for logs. Ended up remapping those to Tab, E, and G respectively. But those keys over there have been pretty standard recently, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. The map being zoomed in by default ever time you look at it is annoying though, can't tell anything from it zoomed in.

All the more reason to flip the bird to the PC and get it on the console. Sure Patches take longer, and I may not have as good *insert stuff here*, but when I can just play the damn game and not find any problems with it, I'm not going to complain.

Doesnt make any sense, if they can handle widescreen hdtv.. why not a PC monitor, its basically the same thing.

Heck, widescreen is the new standard everywhere.

My guess it that they are lazy.

Unless someone challenges whether or not this image is accurate, it would seem to imply to me that they went exactly 50/50 on whether 4:3 gamers should have more vertical, or if 16:9/10 gamers should have more horizontal. They split the difference. I'd almost think... that they were being reasonable!

They're not "lazy" for not implementing it - it's trivial to set what the field of view is for a viewport. They chose to do it that way. I'm guessing that one reason is simply that Bioshock (like many other FPSs) depends on getting gacked from behind or the side for some of its thrill, but not so much from above or below. Widening the field of view may cut down on the experience for some. There could also be an issue with distortion when the view is too wide, or who knows.
On the other hand, using the same FOV angle for 4:3 and 16:9/16:10 displays (instead of a wider view for the wider display) can also be a fun way to induce motion sickness for some people. Audiosurf, for example, seems to have the same horizontal viewing angle no mater what aspect ratio you're using, so when I run it at 1920x1200, my native resolution, everything ends up being very stretched horizontally, and I had to switch to 1600x1200 instead so it doesn't make me feel like I'm going to puke during fast songs (the only game I've ever played that's managed to do that, actually). I remember some people having that issue with Borderlands recently, too, at least in the PC version, since it uses a relatively narrow viewing angle by default, which doesn't agree with some people if they have a big screen they sit very close to (which is generally not an issue with consoles when you're sitting on your couch). Same thing can be true if the viewing angle's too wide, of course, but I haven't seen that as often, and especially not with default settings.

Good thing is they did fix the mouse issue, which is what killed Bioshock 1 for me.

Hope they fix it soon. It may not be a problem for me, but some of my fellow Escapists might be less than pleased.

The article did mention the same thing happening with the firts Bioshcok, so that's natural.
I probably shouldn't admit this, but I started typing before I'd finished the article. Though, I didn't post before finishing the article.

"The mouse issue"? I'm guessing that was one of those problems that only a few people had, because this is the first time I've heard of it. I'm just hoping they fixed the issue of sound clips cutting in and out.

Nice job ppl turning this into a PC flaming thread.

Ppl who can afford good PCs also have consoles folks. As much as you think your analog stick is good for FPS, its nothing compared to playing it on a PC.

Also love how gamers will come to the defense of big corporate companies who have only one interest, how to best screw you out of your money for the lowest possible cost.

Here is a perfect example. PC is their smallest market share and yet because of a simple port of the 360 version will service they can still cash in on this sector. Greed is their only motivation. Its the reason y BS2 is nothing more than a clone of the first one. But please convince yourself that it isn't and give them the extra $10 for your console version.

Fix or not BS2 is no where as good as BS1 so i have no interest in this game. Which coincidently most review scores are lower than the first.
