it's the old euthanasia debate, the sane Gil asked for death, but the Gil that you actually kill (the recently defenseless one, thanks to you) does not wish to be killed. the Idea is that he is suffering horribly and causing others to suffer as well, but you are still essentially murdering a defenceless human, regardless of his mental state, therefore, some people would consider this an evil act, while others would consider it an act of mercy.
OT: I sought out and saved every little sister, and allowed Grace and Stanley to live. (I euthanised Gil) because I originally intended rescue some and harvest some, but then found out that they would leave you rewards for saving the little sisters, and Holloway would send you supplies in siren alley.
