I picked BioShock up last Sunday for $40 and honestly the only reason I really did buy it was for trophies. I've started playing it on hard and now I've gone back and started on easy and it took me a while to really get into it. But I can say this for sure. This is one of the most boring games I have ever played. I've honestly had a funner time with Tony Hawk games. I've gotten to Neptune's Bounty on hard and barely got half way through the first on easy. But the backtracking is pissing me off. System Shock 2 was criticized for it's excessive backtracking and I heard BioShock had less but as far as I'm concerned it has way too much.

Other than that the story is original as far as I'm concerned, and even though I already know all the ending I'll still play it all the way through. The weapon selection reflects the time the game is set in which is a plus, though I'm pretty sure a multi-shot grenade launcher didn't exist back in 1960. Like I said I played it on Hard first so when I go back and play it through on easy I'll come back with a I know this sounded a little like a rant but I just hate backtracking. I'll make a full review in a while but don't count on it coming soon.

Oi, Tony Hawks kicked ass, well up to THUG anyway. Did you play this on 360 or PC beforehand?

I have played in on 360 and PC but I was forced into playing them at separate friends houses. I figured if I bought it for myself and played it then I would develop a personal opinion for it.

Terrible "review"

Don't make a "first impressions" review and then maon about the game without explaining why you don't like it. In fact; why a first impressions on a game that has been out for nearly 2 years?

The backtracking doesn't bother me because the environments are rather small once you get a feel for them. It's the type of game I could imagine playing for speed runs. What really killed the game for is how quickly every objective turned into a fetch quest. The escort a little sister bit at the end was also a nuisance.

None of this changes the fact that what you've posted can hardly be considered a review in any measure of the word, even if it is just a first impressions. I reviewed the demo in October, and even that was touching on ~900 words.

I never said I don't like it, I just said backtracking pisses me off. And the real review will be coming.

Like I said, I'm only two levels in and I have work and school to deal with so wait till I make the review.

You don't like it. Great, I totally support your opinion, but please formulate your opinion beyond one paragraph before you post it in the review section.

Most first impressions are much longer than one paragraph though.

tbh, I'm afraid I really like Bioshock, I think its immersive in its enviroment, the combats good, and its got a really creepy feeling bout it, so all in all, I don't see your critiscisms as valid if you're properly fighting

Some people play games for story, others for action. Where Bioshock tried to bring a balance between the two, I do agree that it failed to bring excessive action. I loved the story, enjoyed that it dropped small bits of story while you were backtracking, but on the second play, yes, it is excessively dull and redundant to play.

To shed more light onto "multi-shot grenade launcher not existing back in 1960," no, they really did not, but nothing about this game was trying to be historically correct, to argue. I always enjoyed (as mentioned by Yahtzee) that your player hovered in mid-air to hack something (which certainly isn't HACKING) as whatever may be attacking waited until you were finished. It's not realistic. I don't think it's trying to be.

Umm... why post a "first impression" at all? Just wait and post the whole review once you have it written, don't give us a trailer for a review.
