I've been playing this (just) and I'm really getting annoyed with it.

On level 2, I'm just coming up against Rosie and no matter what I do, she keeps beating the snot out of me.
I've used every trick I know, diving for cover, TK'ing grenades, Tk'ing fire-drums, 1-2 combo, electro shells, a drum of magazine and after about 9 health kits and 5 vitae regens, I'm just managing to take her down.

Is there something here I'm missing, because I'm about to delete the game in frustration?

(I'm competent at most FPS's, but there seems to be something I'm missing)

Are you using armor piercing rounds? Remember handgun > machine gun due to the absurd amount of recoil on the latter.

Use suitable ammunition. Electro Bolt is also a good tactic against Rosies, especially if they're standing in water..if you have Telekinesis, throw something explosive..
wait..which one is level 2 again?Medical Pavilion?Wish my Xbox would arrive already..

My strategy with Rosies is to circle strafe and every time it fires got the opposite direction. The only problem is you have to catch all of its proximity mines will telekinisis or the plan fails.

Buy some electric shotgun shells. Easy win. Bye bye Rosie.... by the way Rosie is a dude!

Also... you know you can't actually die, right?

The big daddies' health will remain depleted after you regenerate in the vita chamber.

Just get ready to sidestep the charge..that's usually half of the battle. if you have no where to move well...gl with that. Rosies are exceptionally hard in the early stages. Its gets easier as your stockpile of ammo grows. Don't give up on the game just yet. As your first weapon upgrade i highly recommend the machine gun stabilizer. Don't miss shotgun dmg and fire rate, and immunity to your own grenade launcher dmg. Try to save your big ammo strictly for roseis at first. mainly electric shoutgun rounds for the time being. And anything armor piercing. Tking works well but is a bit tricky to master. Stick with run and gun.

What difficulty is it on? But the first Rosie is a pain in the arse because you have literally no guns and very few powers, but trust me, they get easier as you go on :D
EDIT: The most useful gun upgrade in the game is the auto shotgun one.

Well first of all, they are supposed to be tough. Don't blame the game for not being piss ass easy like a lot of stuff out there. Actually, people were complaining that this game is too easy because of the Vita Chambers, so I don't know how it's too hard for you.

It's not like there is going to be one in front of you everywhere you turn. I loved fighting them, they are awesome opponents. Especially later the Bouncers and the elite ones.

Electric anything.

And come to the realization that the BioShock devs consider frequent respawning points a vital component of level design.

I'd avoid it and return when you've got more to hit it with. I don't remember having a particular problem with most of the Big Daddies, I played the 360 version, and while taking them down was an event, it wasn't a huge challenge. You can follow them fairly safely remember, get too close and it'll warn you before attacking. Use that to your advantage. Maybe get some splicers involved, it'll just as readily attack them, so you can wade in during a fight and chip away. A tip throught the game is to not to be a jack of all trades, focus on upgrading specific weapons and plasmids that you like to use, for example I hated the Bees and never used them whilst one of my friends never stopped using them...

The problem I have is that I'm trying to do it clean, but I just can't seem to strafe it. Everytime I move to oneside, the rivets still get me or they land a prox mine next to me that I can't TK out.

The one time I did do it clean, the Little Sister had disappeared.

Nice to know that it is actually hard though, I'd heard of some people just using the Electro-Wrench combo, but as soon as I zap her, she slaps me back and this is only on medium.

The strafing takes awhile to master, but another thing that helps is the Static Discharge gene tonic(the one that send the shockwave out when you get hit). So if you get damaged you get a few seconds to get hits in while its stunned.

Ah, you'll get the hang of it after a while.

The trick: use electric buckshot on the Rosie until you have to reload. Quickly switch to the freeze plasmid and fire, then use the time to reload. As soon as the Rosie thaws out, repeat.

It's foolproof, you'll get the hang of it after a while.

My recommendation: Upgrade your shotgun first.

Hope that helps.

Try to avoid Big Daddies if you can because they are damn hard to kill. If you do need to take one down though then use electric weapons because it stuns them.
