Now if you played Bioshock 1, you knew that the main character besdies the start, doesn't ever talk. Though I noticed this changed for Inifinite, your character now has a voice despite it being in first-person the character spoke many times during the gameplay trailer.

I personally like it but I know ppl like their silent FPS-main character. So what do you guys think?

(I don't believe this has been discussed before.)

edit: I know the main character of B1 talked during the stasrt but he never talked afterwards.

I find his choice of voice interesting, though they could do a bit more to show that he's talking, like moving his hands or something.

I'm really happy the main guy talks. I find silent MCs pretty distracting, to tell the truth. It worked alright in Bioshock 1 because you were alone for the most part, but it still would have been a little more realistic for Jack to have said just a little somethin' here and there. It worked fine in Bioshock 2 because Delta couldn't talk in the first place (unless he didn't go through the same larynx surgery thing as the later Big Daddies, but there's no way to know that.)

yeah, I also noticed that the game has more physical interactions, besides (B1 spoilers)

the part where you kill andrew ryan and the very end with Atlus those where the only time you accutaly were next to another NPC, before then all interactions were via the radio and through windows of sorts.

I'm fine with them giving the main character a voice.

I like my silent protagonists (Gordon, Chell, Jack etc), but that doesn't mean every first person game needs one.

I like it. Jack (from his end, at least) just sort of showed up in Rapture, and you basically make him. Delta, as mentioned, couldn't talk. The Infinite guy (I forget his name) has a mission. I'm guessing he has a character. Plus I like his voice.

I like it when the person you play makes witty comments when you blow someones head off.. Though may not be suitable for all games since it makes the character a bit goofy..

Jack does have spoken dialogue in the first Bioshock. At the beginning, before the blimp goes down, and in one of the audio diaries.

yeah but in this the character accutaly talks a lot. So technicaly you could of said jack wasn't a mute but he still was a mute more more then half of the game.

So far I like his voice, he sounds like Harrison Ford, I just hope he doesn't talk too much.

Well he talked quite a bit if you watched the full trailer, a lot near the end.

Yeah, but like most people, I think it was just a trailer to show us what the game will be like.

I just don't want him to make a comment about everything around him is all, I'd like to experience Columbia without commentary.

Actually the protagonist talks in both Bioshock games. Jack does the voice over at the start of the first game, then apparently loses his larynx during the plane crash.

Delta usually does the whale moan thing big daddies do, but if you listen carefully, occasionally when he dies he moans "Elenor" which made the whole game worthwhile for me.

OT: I imagine the new voice is because you have a partner with you, walking around with an ally and not being able to speak is a bit weird, HL2:ep1 is the only game that's pulled it off for me.

Whenever I'm playing a game and there is a silent protagonist, I usually do my own voiceovers for them. It'll be nice to not have to do that in this game, and maybe I can finally start thinking about the game instead of what I'm going to say!

I always like haveing a voiced character some games it works without like Portal but i feel Half-life might of been even better with a voice character cos NPCs interact with you and act like you talk. Still i look forward to what he will say during the game, hopefully he won't be Nathan Drake speaking every 5 secounds.
