Since the Bioshock franchise seems to now have a theme of taking a location, mashing in a philosophy, and shooting it up, what locations and philosophies would you like to see next?
Maybe a society of eugenicists in an active volcano?

How about a society of capitalists in a space station? It's run by an AI, and one greedy businessman hires a hacker to remove the AI's ethical constraints for some personal profit, but it backfires and the AI kills everyone except the hacker and a handful of survivors holding out against the mutant/cyborg hordes?

I see what you did Thar...

Screw another Bioshock, System Shock 3 please Ken, Thank You.

It shouldn't be too hard to get back the rights now it's been sold out of EA's clutches.

It's System Shock. Y'know, the spiritual predecessor to Bioshock.

Old, severely underplayed game is old and severely underplayed.

@resonance, Go to Good Old Gamer, get System Shock 2 for $10. One of the best games ever made IMO.

How about a sequel to Bioshock Infinite that turns out to be Half Life 3?

See, like that right there.

So apply that to my original post, thanks.

In all honesty I think the series should (and likely/hopeuflly will) end with Infinite. Everyone says that the ending to Infinite leaves it open to literally infinite possibilities of new games.....but are they really new games?

Elizabeth specifically spells it out during the ending: "Everything's the same, except different. It's all about constants and variables. There will always be a man, a lighthouse, and a city."

That's what's with the tie-in to Rapture during the ending sequence. Rapture only exists in a world in which Columbia does not. It's one of the many possible universes likely spawned from a universe in which Booker doesn't get baptised (meaning that in that universe, he never is reborn as Comstock and never goes on to create a Columbia in that particular universe). But there-in lies the problem: even without Columbia, "There will always be a man, a lighthouse, and a city". Case in point: Rapture.

That brings up the fact that the story has been completely exposed as what it is. No matter how many Bioshock games they make, the story will always HAVE to be the same, but different...it's officially canon now that such a necessity exists. I mean compare and contrast the story of BS2 with BSInfinite and you'll see how amazingly "similar but different" they are.

Eleanor = Elizabeth.
Lamb = Comstock
Big Daddy Delta = Booker

Both Elizabeth and Eleanor are being raised by a tyrannical/insane parental figures. They're both being brought up as said parental figures' over-all plan to utterly change the surface world. And they both want nothing more than to escape the city with their father figure (Booker and Delta). There's the fact that both Booker and Delta are marked as the enemy due to something on their hands (Delta has the delta symbol on his hand while Booker has his daughter's initials marking him as The False Shepherd). Both Lamb and Comstock have zealously faithful cult followings. The similarities go on and on.
The over-all point is that from now on it's officially canon that they have to tell the same story with all the same motifs no matter where they set the story. And really, after the ending to Infinite, I honestly don't think we need a new Bioshock.

Beyond my reasoning, there is the fact that this very topic brings up: where would they set it? They've already gone to the two extremes available on this planet: bottom of the ocean and soaring above the clouds. Where else can a lighthouse (since according to canon they're officially required now) send you? Unless they come up with a steampunk space station, the options are very limited...if they exist at all.

I love System Shock with a fiery passion, but its a game that nobody should try without a really open mind these days. I've played through SS2 once every few years since it came out but I dug out my old SS1 disc in a fit of nostalgia after GOG re-released 2 and it was not good. The controls are from the era before WASD was settled on as the standard, and though I loved it back in the day, the control system is borked (though the little homunculi you used to select your posture was neat). Irrational would cement themselves as my favourite game developer if they'd bring us a new take on System Shock. Maybe resolve that cliffhanger from the end of 2. If GOG can secure the rights from that insurance company that owns it these days maybe Irrational can do the same. Shodan lives!

Like others have said Bioshock is pretty much done with, and Irrational don't strike me as a developer that would want to beat a dead horse (that doesn't mean 2K won't churn out a Bioshock 2 style sequel to Infinite with another slightly weaker story but refined combat)

A society of academics living underneath one of the Artic poles.

They prize learning, development education and invention but any frivolity or waste is banned. Thus the society is highly advanced and the people are really smart logically, but lack any social skills, street smarts or intuition. Passion and love are so maligned as to be practically illegal. Everything is sterile and bland. In such a hostile environment efficiency has gone from being originally necessary to survive to becoming a central ideology of religious fervour. Autonomous robots do all labour so while the people understand how everything in their society works in theory, there is no practical knowledge of how to do anything.

Then something happens and all at once the machines that create the electricity stop. The lights go out.

Were they sabotaged or was it an accident? Can the ideology survive without the mechanical autonomous technology taking care of all their practical needs, or will the need to return to physical labour, increased social interaction and the heightened frantic emotions that erupt from a civilization staring into the void of destruction tear the unfeeling system apart by it's nerves?

Hey, I really want to play that now!

So, HD rerelease or complete remake?

Anyways, I wouldnt mind seeing a game that goes back to the system shock roots. Only played a bit of SS1 (did not like it that much) but still seemed like a cool story.

An apparently perfect society living in a colony on the moon. They ran away from our society to create an utopia and then you arrive there and start spreading chaos, panic and murder. Everyone sees you as a villain. It would be a criticism to violence in videogames.

The difference with Bioshock Infinite would be that you have more choice, you can spare the life and even become friends with some former enemies, so you'll get multiple endings according to your decisions.

Also there should be more time spent living in that perfect society before unleashing a murder spree and there should be more moments walking around the citizens peacefully like the beginning of Bioshock Infinite.

A society based on the Juche Idea living in a city under a volcano on Venus.

So basically North Koreans living on a real life death world.

What are the ideas/principles of "Juche" other than loving our Dear/Great Leader?

Hm. My top choice would be Communism, set in Revolution/Civil War era Russia. Winter aesthetic would be new, and I think the style would be different enough to make Moscow interesting, especially if you poach an idea from Metro and have part/all of the city underground.

Would be a fascinating opportunity for commentary and story, and there's no shortage of opportunity for combat-based gameplay, what with the violent civil war and all.

Possible alternate setting with possibility for philosophical discussion - Revolutionary France, where we discuss the rights of man, the new republic, the monarchy/aristocracy etc. Slightly later in the timeline, but you have the Napoleon figure as well, and plenty of discussion about the morality of being the Emperor of a republic.

Ken Levine said that they only want to make games that challenge them. They've made two highly successful and critically acclaimed Shock games, and that's not counting the OG's back in the 90's.

I don't think they can get the rights to System Shock, so I'm not really sure what they'll do next. They could do a trilogy of the Bioshock games I guess.

A matriarchal underground society where men are oppressed and have no rights.

The technology has been developed to artificially manufacture sperm, so the leaders of this society declare men redundant and have them killed upon being born. You play as a woman who fights for the life of her baby son.
