Resident Evil is nothing more than a George A Romero rip off, and Sands of Time we've seen a ton of times before.

Bioshock however is a special kind of project, in fact it could be one of the most important thing for gamers.

Bioshock, like it or hate it, has serious potential for the movie, it has the dark gritty atmosphere and big scenery for those people who like to see good settings. It has the ultra-violence that mainstream audeinces love, overlapping themes of a persons morality and sense of self, and Atlas Shrugged philosophy will really make critics go nuts.

It has alot of diffrent things going for it, and considering its being made by Gore Vebrinski (Remember Pirates of the Caribbean?) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillio (28 Weeks Later) it could seriously change the public perception of video games as a whole.

This could potentially effect some things that are threatening the gaming community now, if you don't know what i am talking about, you should watch Extra Credits more.

Well that's not good.

I don't hold out high hopes myself. Bioshock would take alot of care and a level of talent that's fairly rare to do full justice to the franchise.

I wouldn't say that.
Really?

Resident Evil 1, a group of people go and hide in an abandoned house to hold out from zombies, now go watch Night of the Living Dead

The reason why Bioshock story and twist worked so well was because YOU it was interactive. And the twist worked because you had to work up all that suspense to finally off the main bad guy. Just to find out that he was technically a good guy. More of a neutral one really, but I digress.

So a Bioshock movie would just fall flat on its face.

Hmm. I'm not sold either way on a Bioshock film. A lot of things that made Bioshock so great can only be done in video game form. A film seems a little unnecessary.

More than that, it's the fact that you were being used and controlled the entire time, only you didn't realise it. That couldn't possibly work anywhere near as well in a film. It'd have to be completely different.

Why? If they can get a good actor that the audience can see themselves in their shoes and make them like them, it can be effective. I don't doubt its potential for failure, this is going to be an incredibly tricky movie to make, but it can work. They need to be careful...

And this is Hollywood we are talking about here. If they don't fuck it royally up, then I shall believe that there is some higher being up there in the sky.

The thing is the only director I see getting this to work is Kubrick. Most modern director's just don't have what it takes.

They are not doing Hollywood style, they are filming it overseas so as to avoid that effect, think what Peter Jackson did with LOTR

They will mess it up. Why? They just can't leave the original story alone, they have to add stuff and dumb other bits down.

My first reaction to hearing this a while back was pure joy, as I had finished playing the game for the first time that week. Then I realized what the others have said, and how the twist probably won't work so well. Then I realized it was a videogame movie. Now I'm not sure I want it to happen.

Filming overseas =/= Anything special.

And Gore Verbinski is not making it, he's just producing. Not that having him in anyway involved would make it automatically great. He made 2 good films as far as I know.

Im not saying the movie will be good, what i am saying is the movie could be good, if they do it right it could be one of the best films of the year. Should it happen? Well if i had my way it wouldnt, but if it does happen and if they do it right...well think about what could happen.

28 WEEKS Later!!! Arrrh hell, I had hope for a moment. I love the Bioshock series, both of them. This could be something amazing, aslong as its not a remake of the games. This is a chance for an entirely new chapter. It could take place at the Kashmir riot or while all that smuggling was happening. That Louie McGraff might make a broadly appealing character even if he is just basically a dick. The multiplayer characters have a good basis and could be easily fleshed out. It will be interesting to say the least.

People will like it. It will make money. And then it will pass through everyones memory in 2-3 months.

If a Bioshock movie has to happen, then I would get the guys who made Pandorum to make it. Pandorum had a good Bioshock vibe through it all.

If they can't do it well. Mainly because Rapture itself was treated as a character just as much as Jack, Ryan and Fontaine were. The demented and twisted ramblings of splicers as they wander Rapture often speaking of brighter days for themselves in the future, focusing on the Present in an almost diabolical way or remembering the past. The Hulking monstrosities that were the Big Daddies, being pulled forward by a small girl with glowing yellow eyes while they say "This way Mr. Bubbles.

If they don't put as much effort into making the city look and feel the same, then they will fall flat on their face. Not to mention that it would be difficult to make a movie around a silent Hero.

It probably has only slightly more potential than the Halo movie. Which I hope never happens.
