BioShock To Be Released on iOS

The port will be available sometime before the summer is over, but pricing has not been revealed yet.

Irrational Games and 2K Games announced that they will be releasing the original BioShock for Apple's iOS in a matter of weeks. The partners assured that gameplay and story will be identical in the mobile version to that of its PC and console counterparts.

BioShock, one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last console generation, will become one of many game franchises to become available on mobile platforms after it initial release. Titles such as Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto, and EA's Madden have already made the jump from console to mobile. Because of the decrease in sales of new video games, more and more developers are moving to the mobile scene in an attempt to boost sales.

The port was announced [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136383-2K-Games-Makes-a-BioShock-Tease] that it would be closing its doors for good- and 2K has taken over the developement for Bioshock iOS. They have yet to formally say when the game will be released, but they have noted that it will be a "premium priced mobile game". iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4, iPhone 4c, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 5c will be compatible with the game. Older Apple devices will not be able to play.

Would you play BioShock on your phone or tablet? Tell us in the comments!

Would I play it? Not a chance. The control scheme must be horrible, unplayable virtual analogue garbage. I'm not so bothered about the inevitable graphical downgrade, but all the FPS or third person games I played so far have been annoying and frustrating, resulting me in deleting the app about an hour later. Now I've been playing Shadowrun Returns on the iPad, Bioshock would be perfect for this kind of setup, the SRPG was born (almost) for touch controls! Why could they have not put some effort in and made a tactics Bioshock game?

A major reason the series is so successful is because of the amazing atmosphere it delivers. You can't deliver that on a handheld.

Whilst portable Bioshock is nice, just thinking about playing some of the more hectic sections makes me frustrated.

Hell, no!

Bioshock ported for a touchscreen?! That is criminal. It is gonna get A- incredibly dumbed down; or B- virtually unplayable.

Why not port it for Vita? I would kindly (heh) play it through again on Vita.

Touchscreens are only fit for games build from the ground up with that control scheme in mind...

Can't wait to see someone getting frustrated trying to get through that escort mission near the end on a tablet. I guess that they probably will make some changes to make it more touchscreen friendly.

Well... At least the hacking mini-game will be on a medium where it actually fits?

Yeah, no way can I see this working with touch controls. Bioshock has just too many abilities you need to juggle at once to play on anything less than a gamepad.

I guess you could make a complete game out of that then, since the whole FPS thing is never going to work out.

I donno, I kind of like the idea, to be honest. Obviously the main problem will be with controls but I'm happy to see them experiment with it, as long as they don't completely turn it into some Dungeon Keeper-esque nightmare. But it doesn't seem to be going that way, and even IAP wouldn't really hurt the game as long as they're managed well.

I don't know if I'll buy it, that's kind of a different story, I suppose it depends on the proce, but 5 or 6 bucks it's a definite maybe.

I don't get this why do companies always put console games on phones that CLEARLY don't have the control scheme for it, I mean there are dedicated portable gaming consoles that way more deserving of Bioshock like the Vita.

I want to know why Apple still can't get it through their head that gamepad control add-ons for the iPhone would sell like hotcakes and allow even more major titles to be sold on the App Store. It's become almost a running gag that whenever another company comes up with a good idea before they do, they refuse to adopt it because it would entail admitting that companies not named Apple are capable of having good ideas.

To be fair, though, I'm not aware of Android making moves to standardize a gamepad accessory port either. Everybody is dragging their feet on this thing, and it's kind of hilarious. And the Vita is still failing.
