Bioshock, Way Too Hard?

I found the game to be about counters, by this I mean different weapons tend to work much better vs different enemies. Like has been said before the electric buckshot did wonders vs some of the big daddys. It was just a case of figuring out the weakness of enemys and exploiting it. If they didn't have a weakness then the tommygun seemed to work well for me as my fallback weapon.

I personally found it a little on the easy side even on hard, I also didn't use vita chambers. I've been playing FPS games for a long time now, since wolfenstien and doom so that also helps. If you want to see a hard FPS though try Call of Duty 4 on veteran mode.

I remember on my first playthrough I didn't know about the respawn chambers so I went on Hard through the entire game without dieing once... of course many many saves and loads but not a single time used pod...

Yeah, I didn't have any trouble playing on medium. Although that could probably be due to the fact that I sit back and spend 10 minutes trying to kill everything from a safe distance before entering a room. An extremely effective, if not boring strategey.
Just boring to watch, I love the satisfaction of sneaking unseen through video games, watching people go about their petty lives, then killing them all without them seeing me. Particularly Oblivion in this manner.
Yes, I agree. Its boring to watch. When you're the one playing its very fun. This is why I can't play any single player games with friends... they hate to watch me. But when playing left 4 dead, they couldn't be happier that I play that way!

I found the medium difficulty to be just right. I don't think that I ever died but it did keep things challenging. When I switched to hard, I pretty much had my ass handed to me by the Big Daddies. With the easier difficulties, you can pretty much knock them out pretty fast, but on hard, I usually died at least once. You have to make sure that you have plenty of ammo when going up against them as well. I barely had any on one Big Daddy and I ended up just running to him, hit him with a wrench until I died and then repeat.

Bioshock is an easy game, one thing, any electrical attacks are your best friend, Electric Bucks and Lighting Bolts!

If you think that game is hard, try playing Ninja Gaiden II or The Last Remnant.

If you've experience from a lot of FPS or FPSRPG (especially System Shock 2) then BioShock is not all that hard: you'll be scrounging carefully for ammo only to come up with a massive excess in no time. About the only tough conflict are those Big Daddies, and they get much easier later in the game.

Especially if you use certain plasmids to aggro one Big Daddy onto another, leaving a very weakened one for you to finish off. Then you'll have one or two little sisters to get ADAM out of with barely any effort at all.

I have to admit I don't find Bioshock incredibly hard.

Even if you do die frequently, it is little more than a momentary inconvenience.

I played on medium and once you get into the combat style it was fairly easy. I didnt want for money, ammo or medkits.
That was on pc though - mouse and keyboard ftw!

I may sound like an elitist person here, but.. If you really think Bioshock is 'way too hard' on Medium or even at all on any difficulty, lest you never play a classic Mega Man game or Devil May Cry 3... You'll cry (I know I did to MM3 when I was 4).

I only died when I played like a moron. Never got around to playing it on hard.

Vita chambers made the game a bit too easy, so I just stopped using them.

the big daddy aren't too hard, you just have to read their attack sequence. They do telltales of what attack they're about to do. As far as the insane citizens listen and try to ambush them. I remember using the ice and invisible plasmids a lot. the 2 hardest things for me was 1) running out of ammo (lol) and 2) where you have to protect a little. sister

There's so much good advice here that I'm tempted to let it be, but I'd like to give my two cents as well.

Bioshock's combat system requires a bit of creativity, using the right plasmids with the environment and knowing what ammo to use on an enemy, but once you figure out what to do, the game becomes too easy, even on the hardest difficulty setting. The first Big Daddy you kill will be the most difficult, as the game gives you more options as you progress. Hacking security bots and cameras also make the game easier. Setting traps help too, as you can use the environment to your advantage.

My main complaint about Bioshock is that there is no real penalty for dying. Your ammo is gone when you respawn, but the enemies retain the damage you inflicted on them before dying. So you can just keep wearing that Big Daddy down with no real consequence.

Some quick suggestions:
Use armor piercing bullets on Big Daddies, turrets, bots and cameras
shock with electricity and then get in a few headshots while your enemy is stunned
Use anti-personel bullets on any and all Splicers
take pictures of everything to get bonuses
use plasmids in conjunction with your environment: electricity on enemies in water, fire on enemies near propane tanks or oil slicks, levetate and throw enemies at one another for a quick kill...
Use the crossbow triplines, cyclone plasmid, and proximity mines to set traps

I find it impossible to play Bioshock on medium without dying frequently. Although, this topic reminds me of one on Gamefaqs titled: Do you play Bioshock with hard on?

I thought the charm Big Daddy plasmid doesn't work if the Big Daddy is accompanying a Little Sister?
Watching two Bouncers drill each other is one of the joys I derived from this game. Man, that sounded awkward.

It's really not very hard with the infinite vita-chamber things. Of course, those really break the flow of the game if you die too often. It's quite easy compared to System Shock 2.

Also, if you find it too hard on normal, play on easy. All games have different standards for difficulty.
